“You stopped with your first job?”

She nodded. “Yeah. Except I was wrong. It’s worse now. She could destroy all the years of hard work.”

To me, medical school and the years put in for her residency sounded like torture. The possibility of all that time and effort and expense being destroyed made me want to track down her sister and have a few words with her.

“I relocated from Denver because she fucked things up so bad, I don’t even want to tell you what she did. I resigned. Moved to Cheyenne.”

“Where you met me.”

“Yeah, and then I moved here because she ruined everything for me in Wyoming.”

Based on what her sister had done here in Devil’s Ditch, I could only imagine what she’d fucked up for Molly in Cheyenne. Or what she hadn’t shared about Denver.

“She followed and now, of course, wants moremoney.” She fiddled with the badge on my chest. “I just want her to get help. To get clean. Or go to jail. Maybe all three at once. She’s never faced a consequence of her actions in her entire life. I love her. God, she’s my twin! But she needs to be punished and I’m tired of enabling her.”

I shook my head. “It’s not enabling, it’s extortion.” I let that simmer for a minute, then continued. “We’ll get her. But the break-in at Cam’s isn’t enough. She would go to jail for maybe a month.”

After everything her sister had already done to her, I wanted to… I had no idea what. Banish her? Put a forcefield around Molly? I wanted to strangle the woman. Yell at her. Tell her to fuck off. But I knew from my job that Missy was mentally sick. She needed help.

“She went to HR impersonating me and got a hospital badge.”

Shit. That was bad and now I saw why Molly said she’d probably lose her job and her license. Okay, Missy was more than sick. She had zero empathy, no concern for right and wrong. The things she could do with that looking like the ER Chief…

“Colt.”

Her soft voice stirred me from my thoughts. I met her dark eyes.

“Maybe you’ve got the right idea. We need to break up,” she whispered.

My fingers clenched her hips ensuring she didn’t get up.

“Not fucking happening,” I growled. “You’re mine. You gave yourself to me.”

“I meantpretendto end our relationship,” she clarified. As if that was going to make me relax when I was beyond pissed off. I didn’t even want tofakeending things with Molly.

“Explain.”

She licked her lips. “Remember I said she likes seeing me suffer? She’d like that, splitting us up. Seeing you dump me for breaking into your brother’s clinic. For thinking I slept with Andy.”

“I’d arrest you for the break-in. I want to arresther.”

She shook her head. “If you arrest me, you’ll know where I am. Meaning she can’t keep pretending to be me.”

I thought about what she was saying. If Molly was in jail, then Missy couldn’t do anything in town because then it would be obvious there were two of them.

“She’s going to pretend to be me and come on to you,” she stated. “Apologize and get you in bed formake up sex.”

I cringed. “She’s done that before?” I asked, but knew the answer.

“High school.” She huffed out a sad laugh. “Matthew Marchesy. She wants to punish me for not helping her, told me as much in the hospital parking lot just a little while ago. She’ll show up at your house, apologize and say something to try to win you back. Or do something, like a blow job. Men will keep any woman around who will suck his dick.”

I remembered Andy saying she sucked dick like a vacuum.

She had a point, although the very thought about a drug addict crazy woman anywhere near my dick made my balls crawl up into my body.

“Fucking you would destroy me,” she admitted, glancing down. “That’s what she’d do.”

“It’d be ironic for a woman like her to have a lawman by the balls.”
