My breath comes in damp gasps against his ear. His hand gentles around my cock, soothing me down from the high. I never want to be parted from him. I want to stay like this forever, holding each other, warm, even in the gentle fall of rain.
“Feel good?” His lips move against my cheek. A smile.
“Perfect.” I kiss the point of his ear because it’s right there, and it’s so cute, and I have to be touching him anywhere I can.
“Me too.” He turns his face for a proper kiss, and I meet him.
We’re wet, disheveled, and our knees are filthy, but I couldn’t have dreamed up a better reunion. To have him back in my arms is all I’ll ever need.
“I got you something.” With a flourish of his hand a wave of his magic tidies us up. Then he shuffles down and sits on his haunches.
I scoot back enough to watch what he’s doing. “You did?”
He reaches behind his neck and pulls forward a lovely necklace. A stunning orange stone with artfully twisted golden lattice in a circle around it, holding it in place, dangles from the chain, or rather two chains. Two gold chains.
As he removes the piece, he presses just so, and the stone separates from its casing. Two necklaces coming together to form one.
“For you. The jewel matches your eyes but could never outshine them.” Rahz hands me the stone. I love the weight of it in my palm. “And I’ll wear what’s left. Because I’m always here to hold you.”
Warmth floods my chest. It’s so sappy and so perfect. “I love them.” I hand mine back. “Put it on me, please?”
“My pleasure.” Rahz’s fingers are gentle as he clasps the new necklace around my neck. The jewel rests beneath my collarbones, a comforting weight, already warmed from his body.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He presses a kiss on my brow.
I hold the stone in my palm, loving it. Loving that he picked this for me. “Yours is beautiful too.” And it is. A simple golden circle of delicately twisted gold. It suits him, and I like knowing there’s a space for me just there, over his heart.
“You’re so sweet.” Another kiss. To catch up on all the ones we’ve missed. “I want to hear everything. All about your trip. Every day and every night.”
His expression clouds as he takes a deep breath. My mood clouds with it.
“Unless it’s bad. Is it bad? Well, I mean, I still want to know, obviously, but I don’t want to upset you if you’d rather not talk about it, and you’ve had such a long journey, and—”
Rahz stops me with a quick kiss. “You don’t upset me. You never could. There’s a lot to tell, not all of it bad. But I’m afraid you aren’t going to like some of what I’ll say.”
That sounds ominous. “Tell me, then. Let’s get it over with and find out.”
“In the dirt? In the rain?”
“Why not?”
He clucks for Magna, who’s wandered off to graze. “Because I’m this close to one of Bessa’s homemade meals, and I’d rather us talk at home, warm and dry in our loft.”
Actually, that does sound better. Rahz is right, as always. “Yes, let’s do that. Your plan.”
I’m so grateful to have him back at my side.
I’ll never let him leave me ever again.
ChapterSeventeen
Rahz
We head firstto the stables to take care of Magna and help her recover from the journey. She’s done so well. I couldn’t be happier to have her as my horse. She tosses her head and snorts proudly, preening as if she knows what I’m thinking.
After she’s been properly pampered, we visit my mother to let her know I’m home safe. Like Jindal, she wants to hear the whole story right away, but she sees I’m tired. It’s easy to convince her to wait until tomorrow, once I’m fresh from sleep. I promise to come back first thing in the morning, and with that, she lets us go.
