His tone is mocking, cutting to the bone. It’s a sharp barb coming on the tails of her betrayal, which I’m going to have to deal with eventually, but I don’t know what to do with her right now.
And with a dead man standing in front of me, she isn’t my priority, either.
Noah focuses on Zoe, the look he gives her making a pit grow in the bottom of my stomach.
I hate the part of myself that wants to protect her, even after everything she’s done.
She lied to me. Made me believe there was something between us.
Each kiss we shared was nothing but her manipulating me.
But if it was all manipulation, then why is she still standing here? Why did she grab the gun and get him off me?
Noah leans back against the door, crossing one leg over the other. “Now, we are all going to have a little chat about what’s going to happen moving forward.”
I glance around, trying to look as casual as possible. “For fuck’s sake, just get it over with so I can die in peace.”
The broken remains of the case are scattered around my feet.
Noah is still bleeding, I might have a loose tooth, and the color is draining from Zoe’s face.
She looks like she’s going to be sick when her gaze locks on the blood currently draining from her body.
She’s not going to bleed out, by any means, but she might pass out.
And then I’ll have to figure out how to run with dead weight on my shoulder. Because if I get out of this, I’m taking her with me.She is mine, even if I don’t know if I’m going to kiss her or kill her yet.
Noah motions from Zoe to me with the gun. “You care about him, which is now another problem. I could almost forgive you leaving the family. I would’ve made your death quick.”
Zoe snorts and rolls her eyes. “Cut the shit, Noah. If you’re going to kill me, go ahead and get it over with. You’re never going to get to Gia, though. Nobody is going to let you.”
“I don’t think it’s a matter of letting.” Noah stalks over to her, wrapping his hand around her neck and slamming her into the wall. “I will get your sister and her daughter.”
He doesn’t know about the baby.
It looks like Zoe hasn’t been telling him everything after all.
If there are things he doesn’t know about my family, I might be able to get ahead of him if I make it out of here.
Noah’s fingers tighten on her throat, and she gasps, her bloody fingers clawing at his hands as she tries to suck in a breath.
I don’t dare to take a step forward. The last thing I want is to make this worse for her, even after the way she screwed me over.
But I can’t sit back and do nothing either.
Kitchen.
I can stab the bastard with one of the knives and take him back to the property. Lock him away until I decide what to do with him.
But he’s going to kill Zoe in the time it takes me to get there.
And I don’t think I can lose her. Not when she’s the only person who makes me feel human, even when I could strangle her.
But before I have the chance to lunge, Noah drops his hand, a sick smirk on his face.
I back up toward the table in the hall, standing with my back to it and opening the drawer. I don’t know what Zoe keeps in there, but there has to be something sharp. Hell, I’d even take a lighter to set the bastard on fire at this point.
Anything is better than nothing.
