“You bastard. You’re not going to win.”
He snorted. “Looks like I already am. Maybe if you tried a little harder, you could keep up.”
“I can keep up just fine, thank you.”
And before he has a chance to react, I kick the controller from his hand, sending it to the plush carpet.
Aiden scowls and dives to the ground after it while I send my racer around for the final lap.
“Cheater.” Aiden sits back down, bracing his elbows on his thighs, but it’s no use.
I win.
I leap from the recliner and throw my hands in the air, dancing around in front of the massive television screen while the animation plays before the standings come on screen.
He snorts and shakes his head, but there’s a small smile curving the corner of his mouth. “There are still three more races.”
“And I’m going to win those too.” I grin, and we race through the next three races.
I come in first and second for the following two, but during the last one, he takes the controller from me and throws it onto one of the recliners at the back of the room.
He crosses over the finish line as I run to grab the controller.
I scowl as I come back, dropping into the recliner and dangling my legs over the arm. “Now who’s the cheater?”
“You started it.”
I roll my eyes and pick another group of races. “Let’s see if you can beat me while not cheating every single race.”
Aiden snorts, mischief in his eyes. “I let you win.”
“That’s it.” I stand on the recliner and launch myself at him, tackling him out of his seat and onto the ground.
He laughs and rolls us over, pinning me down, his legs on either side of my arms.
I can’t move an inch.
Which means that he’s free to grab his controller and start racing while my character sits on the starting line, not moving an inch.
I wriggle beneath him. “I thought you weren’t going to cheat this round!”
He shifts, pressing my arms tighter to my body. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I certainly didn’t agree to that.”
“Get off.”
He smirks, glancing down at me for a moment. “Well, if that’s what you really want, you are in a good position for it.”
I groan and tilt my head back against the floor. “You’re insufferable. I should’ve killed you that first night you wanted to fuck. My life would be so much easier right now. I wouldn’t have you crushing my lungs and making it damn near impossible to breathe.”
Aiden wins his race before getting up. “It’s more entertaining beating you when you actually have to work for it.”
And right then, I don’t know if we’re talking about the fact that he’s holding me here, or the fact that we’re playing a game.
My phone buzzes, and I pull it out, glancing down at the message on the screen.
Boss:See you soon.
I do my best to remain neutral, tucking my phone back into my pocket.
