With that, she takes off back into the house like she didn’t just throw a wrench into my life.
Zoe looks shell-shocked, her eyes wide. “Gia is having her baby?”
“Apparently.” I rub the back of my neck, not sure whether to bring her with me or not.
It could be a risk to bring her. One of my siblings could kill her in the middle of the hospital. Though it would be rather messy, and they would likely be arrested, I wouldn’t put it past any of them to haul Zoe off when I’m not looking.
But on the other hand, how can I tell her that she can’t see her newborn nephew until he comes home?
She will likely kill me. At the very least, she will be angry with me, and with all that happened between us, I’m not sure that I can deny her that.
I sigh. “If you promise you’re going to behave, you can come to the hospital.”
She arches an eyebrow, but there’s a small smile spreading across her face. “You really mean that? You’re not worried about me trying to escape?”
“Put a tracker in you when I first kidnapped you. Not like you’re getting far.”
Her jaw drops, and there’s a flash of hatred in her eyes. She would kill me right here if she got half the chance.
And I would be lying if I said that it doesn’t excite me.
I could fight with her. Get her beneath me with a knife to her throat. Have her writhing around under me and fighting for her life.
She would never beg me to let her live, though.
It would make it that much sweeter. To get her to submit to me the way she did the other night at the club. To have her desperate for me even though I’m the one who kidnapped her. Even though I plan to kill her.
A shame, really.
I ignore the tightening in my chest.
“You can come.” I turn and head back into the house. “But you better move quick. I’m leaving in five minutes, and I’m not going to wait.”
She hurries past me, taking the stairs two at a time.
“Zoe!”Gia sits up in bed and smiles. “You would not believe the drugs they give you to get through this shit.”
Zoe laughs, heading over to her sister’s side. “You said the same thing when you had Bianca.”
“Epidural. It’s the only way to give birth. Can’t feel the pain at all.” Gia reaches for her cup of ice chips, dumping some into her mouth and chomping down on them.
Royce hovers close to me. “Thank you for bringing her. Gia didn’t know if it was going to be possible, considering you’re holding her captive.”
I glance at them before shifting down the wall I’m leaning against.
He follows, moving away from where Gia might be able to hear us. I wouldn’t put it past her to throw whatever she could at me if she hears me talking about her sister.
And yet, I still have no idea how to get my family under control.
Royce tucks his hands in his pockets. “Have you decided what you’re going to do with her? I know she’s being less than helpful, but I don’t think Gia would ever recover if you killed her sister.”
“After everything Zoe has put her and Skyla through, you think she wouldn’t want anything to do with her?”
“Look, Zoe is a feral human, I get that, but she’s only behaving the way she was raised to, the same as us.”
My nose wrinkles as the hospital smell starts to make my head pound. “I don’t know why all of you think that I’m going to allow a threat to the family to keep breathing.”
Ellie strides into the room in her scrubs, her hands tucked into her pockets. “I was able to sneak away from the ER for a few.”
