“I’m going to leave you in here and lock the door. They wouldn’t think to look for you up here. Not that they could get through the door if they wanted to. I value my privacy.”

I stand and reach down the side of the bed, freeing the handcuffs attached to the anchor points. Though it would be nice to be able to trust that she won’t run away the second she’s free, Zoe is one of the most determined people I’ve ever met. She’ll run out of here without a second thought.

Maybe. She did think about Gia and Bianca long enough to come back.

After locking her hands in the cuffs and tying her ankles to the footboard, I head to the door. A moment later, I turn back and grab one of the ties from my closet, tying it around her eyes. After stuffing a rolled up tie in her mouth, I head out.

While she’s sleeping off the sedative, I think it’s time to deal with another problem on my checklist.

Logan looksover his shoulder like he knows someone is following him. He moves like a scared rabbit, jittering and not sure of his next move.

I keep walking past him, head down and collar flipped up. As I turn the corner of the street, his stare lands on me, but it flickers past to a woman that stops near the street before darting out and across, dodging the cars that honk at her.

Who is she to him?

I’ll have to track her down later and find out if she’s going to be another player in this fucked up game. Right now, though, surveillance is my biggest problem.

I don’t trust anyone to watch Logan the way I want him watched, and if Joshua knew I was out here, he would probably try to kill me.

The last thing I need is him and Royce teaming up and becoming an even bigger problem.

Logan hustles inside a building and a moment later, he comes out with a package tucked beneath his arm. He starts walking the opposite way down the street, and I follow behind him, careful not to let him out of my sight.

He rounds the corner of another building, taking the stairs down into the subway as it starts to drizzle outside.

Drops of rain are cold against my face, but they only last until I’m beneath the shelter of the subway.

I glance both ways, trying to figure out which platform he’s going to.

When he stops at one, I duck behind a post, leaning there and picking up my phone to pretend to play, only to be swamped by messages on the family group chat.

Ellie:What the fuck, Aiden, why does Royce have a broken nose and a cracked rib???

Gia:Because Aiden has decided to run for biggest bastard in America, apparently. Anyone got his award ready?

Skyla:We need to talk when you get back.

Summer:This family is falling apart.

Jade:Probably a good thing.

Jade:Hasn’t been much of a family.

Jade:I’m not coming home tonight.

Skyla:You are coming home. We’re not all falling to shit because Aiden can’t keep his temper under control

Ellie:Oh, great, so now somebody is going to need to go over to the house to make sure that Summer and Jade are home.

Summer:Neither of us needs you to babysit us.

Gia:Control freak says you do.

Skyla:Leave them be. They’re both adults. I’m still in town and staying at the house too, so if they need anything, I’m here.

Skyla:Aiden, I know you’ve read all the messages. When you get home, we’re talking.

Fat chance of that.
