Gideon’s fingers tangled in the soft hair before sliding into her already damp flesh, eyes never leaving hers.

“I want you desperately, Miss Drevenport. More than I’ve ever wanted anything. Not even an undiscovered city in a South American jungle could tempt me half as much. Do you believe me?”

Only Gideon would compare making love to her as slightly more intriguing than a pile of ancient stone. But she took his point. “Yes.” She fell back against the bed and shut her eyes, waiting to feel Gideon’s weight fall upon her. Culpepper had always made her lie flat to accept his attentions.

Nothing happened. She opened her eyes an inch.

Gideon was watching her, the dimple deepening in his cheek. He lowered his head, pressing a kiss to the small bulge of her stomach. His tongue traced a reddened line left behind from her stays. He nibbled up another red streak beneath her ribs. “Have your dresses let out,” he murmured against her skin. “I want you to eat tarts with me.”

“That isn’t—what I mean to say—” Honora found it difficult to concentrate, especially after he sucked one of her nipples into the heat of his mouth.

His tongue circled before his teeth grazed the taut peak. “You’ve lovely breasts, Honora. Good God, they’re amazing.”

“Thank you,” she moaned as he trailed his mouth back down to her stomach, licking and sucking at her skin. She ran her hands over his shoulders, feeling the slide of his muscles beneath the tips of her fingers. It was only when she registered a puff of air against her bared flesh that her eyes opened again.

“What are you doing?” She sat up to see his dark hair between her thighs, dangerously close to…well, a very private part of herself.

“Just a kiss, Honora.” His eyes were dark. Hooded. Gideon’s tongue flicked out. “I want to taste you. I meant to do this the day of our picnic.”

She gulped for air. “Your leg,” she stuttered. “And—” The remainder of her thought was cut off by the sinuous movement of his tongue, lapping and teasing at her flesh.

Gideon roughly pushed her thighs apart, hooking one leg over his shoulder.

Honora didn’t object. Couldn’t possibly make even a sound of protest. She was too busy whispering his name as pleasure moved across her body, all of it emanating from the press of Gideon’s mouth against her. The sensations sharpened, honed to a brilliant edge by his tongue, as he lapped at the small bud hidden within her folds. He deliberately teased, leaving her to writhe before him on the bed, begging him. Her hands slapped at his shoulders and clutched at his hair.

Ever so slowly, he eased two fingers inside her channel, curling the tips slightly to massage a sensitive spot within her as he gently sucked the small, sensitive bit of flesh more fully into his mouth.

Honora’s hips shot off the bed. “Gideon.” Her back arched, chin tipping toward the ceiling as the most exquisite sensations rippled down her limbs. She closed her eyes as waves of pleasure rolled over her, her fingers tangling in Gideon’s hair. When the last of the tremors began to fade, Honora finally opened her eyes to find Gideon watching her.

His eyes were narrowed. Predatory. As if he wished to conquer her.

“I didn’t realize how marvelous that could be,” she breathed, the sight of his head between her splayed thighs incredibly erotic.

“I’m far from done,” he growled, kissing his way back up her body to nibble at the taut peaks of her breasts. When he finally reached her mouth, she sighed, parting her lips with little urging, tasting herself and brandy on his tongue. Their mouths moved in tandem as Gideon’s hands explored the curves and hollows of her body, dipping every so often back between her legs.

Honora explored as well, her palms flattening over the sculpted lines of his back and buttocks, inciting Gideon to make the most curious sounds. When her fingers moved to his left hip, however, she felt him tense.

Carefully, she ran her forefinger along the line of one ugly, raised scar. Honora wished she could press her mouth to the twisted skin. Kiss him tenderly. She unfolded her hand, caressing him with a light, delicate touch.

“Gideon,” she murmured against his lips.

He turned his head, pressing a kiss to her palm. “No one else.” He nipped at her wrist. “I wasn’t joking about that.”

“I didn’t expect you were, my lord.”

Gideon brought her hands above her head, lacing his fingers with hers, entering her carefully, giving her time to adjust. He never looked away but pressed his forehead to hers, the truth of his feelings stamped clearly across his handsome features.

“Thisis forever, Honora.” He pulled back before thrusting so deep inside her she gave a small cry. As he rocked his hips against hers, Honora’s last thought before becoming completely immersed in the pleasure between them was that he was right.

She and Gideon had always been bound together.

Chapter Fifteen

The fire crackledand popped, sending sparks against the hearth as a log fell into the grate. A slice of moonlight shone through the window, bathing Gideon in silver light as Honora ran her fingers over the line of his ribs. She lay on her side, her smaller body partially draped over his, the wild mass of her hair tangled around them both. The steady thud of his heart sounded beneath her ear.

Honora was sobloodyhappy.

“Would you like to go to Egypt with me one day?” Gideon wrapped a length of her hair around his thumb. “I’ll teach you how to ride a camel. Take you down the Nile, where you willnotbe attacked by a hippo. We’ll speak of Sebek.”
