“Ah, you know me too well.”

“I do. We’ve been together for almost two years now. It would be weird if I didn’t know you.”

“True,” I agree, not wanting to look too closely at that comment, on how well she actually knows me. That she even knew to bring up a threesome without me getting mad would be proof enough about that.

“So,” she starts again, fiddling with my collar, her elbows now on my chest, “I thought we could, you know, maybe ask him if he still would be interested. Do you think he would be interested in us?”

She looks down at me with those big blue eyes, and yeah, I nod. “If I’m reading him correctly, and if all that flirting was him being serious, then yeah, I think he would be.”

“In you anyway…” A small smirk crosses her lips, making me the blusher this time. “I’m almost jealous ofyoufor getting so much of his attention.”

I balk at that. “What? Really? He does that with everybody. He can’t even order a fucking coffee without saying something flirtatious to the waitress. Or last week at the library, he asked Miss Langley if she could help himpush the book into the right slot. She’s like, forty and married, for crying out loud!”

“But then he looked at her with that half-smile and dropped his gaze, right?”

I snort out a laugh again at how ridiculous this conversation is getting but agree anyway. “Yes, that’s exactly what he does, actually. And what about those stupid hip thrusts when he’s singing?”

“When he touches himself all over as he does it? While belting out some dirty lyrics? Yes, I kinda like those. I think the entire audience loves that, actually.”

I press my lips together and gaze up at my girl. Are we seriously having a talk about how weboththink our friend is hot and want a threesome with him? This shit is surreal.

Just a couple of hours ago, I was mad at Tuck because I thought he hooked up with Jace. And now I’m apparently contemplating doing it myself?

Well, together with my girlfriend then.

Yeah, shit is weird.

She smiles again. “So we agree then?”

I swallow, feeling my heart beating a tattoo against my chest. Am I? Am I really going to do this?

I love her. At least I think I do. She’s my first real girlfriend. Aside from some dating here and there–and losing my virginity to Ashley Harrison back when I was in highschool–I haven’t been with anyone.

Like Kaylee said, I’m always too busy with football, which is and always will be the number one love of my life. I know for a fact that for Kaylee, her education is the same. If she would have to choose between me and her law degree? Yeah, I know where I’d end up. And it’s the same for me in regard to football.

Maybe that is why we just sort of naturally came together. We never put each other in the first place, because those spots were already reserved for our passions. We both respect each other that way, and that was exactly what I needed when we first started dating. Someone who’d understand my hectic schedule and wouldn’t take offense at the fact that she wouldn’t come first.

And maybe that’s why I nod at her in answer to this crazy plan of hers because, while I care about her, my passion has never been about her, because I never really tried to find it anywhere else than football.

Yes, of course we have sex, and yes it’s okay. But that’s it. It’s just okay.

So maybe we need this more than I care to admit, to light up the flame, so to speak. And I have a feeling that that’s also part of the reason why she’s proposing this, to rekindle something between us that has been sort of dead for a while now. If it even ever really was there to begin with.

“So when?” She asks a bit too chipper.

I shrug. “Might as well ask him tonight, I guess? Before we get cold feet and change our minds.”

“You’re really sure?”

“Yeah,” I nod, the nerves now firmly lodged in my belly at the thought of proposing this ridiculousness to Jace, but highly anticipating it as well. “I am. But are you sure?”

“If you are, then yeah. I kinda… He’s just… ” She frowns. “But won’t you get jealous at seeing me with someone else?”

I shrug. “I don’t know? Never had to think about that before. Would you be jealous of seeing me with …. Eh…”

“A guy?”

“Never thought that was something I would ever say. But yeah, with a guy?”
