CHAPTER 13
Kyla
Even this early, LA’s traffic is brutal.
After escaping the Quintus Hotel, it takes a solid forty-five minutes before I finally arrive at my cousins’ place. After paying the driver, I crawl out of the vehicle and stroll up the street. I asked the driver to leave me a few houses off my cousins’ to avoid being spotted. I make a right when I reach their driveway and commence the long walk to the guesthouse. Lucky for me, no one is out to see me return home wearing the same clothes I left with. I’m sure they’re too busy getting their day started to care.
With my next step, Loki’s memory comes to life.
No, no, no.
I will not think of sexy Loki.
In my effort to push away all the salacious images assailing my brain and causing my pussy to tingle, I make a mental to-do list.
Shower.
Breakfast.
Triple check presentation.
Call parents.
Text brothers.
Ditto for Stella and Hayden.
Water plants.
Throw away perishables from the fridge.
Then pack.
There!
I can do it!
For the last sixty seconds, I didn’t think of Loki.
Sigh.
Who am I kidding?
“Don't go sneaking by our house and think we don't see you, young lady.” Hayden’s voice catches me off guard.
I jump in fright.
I seem to be doing that a lot this morning.
“Jesus! Hayden, you scared the living daylights out of me!”
Hayden and Stella step out of the door located on the side of their large house.
“We've been waiting for you,” Hayden says in a motherly voice. She even crosses her arms over her chest.
Sheesh.
“Yeah. You didn’t even bother texting us since last night,” Stella flashes her iPhone at me. I bite off a laugh. “Where were you?” Her foot taps impatiently against the asphalt.
