“Since Lazarus is heading this operation, he’ll be the one sharing what the team he is spearheading has found out,” Lance says.

“Thanks, boss,” Lazarus approaches the table, grabs an iPad and swipes a few times. “Kyla, do you recognize these names?”

He hands me the device.

I scan the list of a dozen names.

“I don’t,” I say, meeting his gaze. Lazarus shifts his eyes to the Falconer brothers. They exchange a silent conversation. “Should I?” I ask. I have no idea who the people on the list are, but suddenly, I’m unsure.

“We’re just checking,” Lazarus says. “Can I please get the iPad back?”

I hand him the device.

He swipes a few times and hands it back to me.

“What about these names? Any ring a bell?” he asks.

When I read the first name, my heart stops. By the time I read the third one, I’m mortified.

I look up at Lazarus, confused. I open my mouth to ask a question, but nothing comes out.

“Do you recognize any of the names?” Lazarus presses.

I can’t answer.

“Kyla,” Loki calls for my attention. “Answer him.”

“Err… I… Um…”

Loki twists my wrists, changing the angle of the device. “Seraphina Moreland, April Conbolt and Leah Moreland?” He reads the names out loud. Please, God, no.“Why would she know these women?”

“We’re simply checking to see if she knows them,” Lazarus says.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse.

“Kyla, who are these women? Do you know them?” Loki asks me.

I still don’t answer. I can’t.

If the floor could swallow me whole, it would put me out of my misery.

“Loki, scroll to the next page,” Lazarus says.

He does.

I close my eyes when I see the name on the screen.

Do I need to get punished for that, God?

“Glenda Franklinn,” Loki says. “Kyla?”

I look up at him, sheer embarrassment choking me.

“Err…”

I’m too distracted by the roaring in my ears and my heart pounding at my ribcage to offer more.

“Keep scrolling,” Lazarus waves a finger at the iPad.
