Before I could say anything, his fingers had parted me again, and he teased me into a frenzy until I had to stop and catch my breath. He took advantage of the opportunity, pulled a condom from his pants on the floor, sheathed himself, and rested over me.
“Eyes on me, baby,” he ordered. “I want to see your face the first time I make you mine.”
I lifted my gaze to his and he pushed forward, filling my body and soul. The sensation of him sliding inside me was like coming home. I could see it in his eyes too. We were finally home, and our cries of pleasure as we became one, heralded in the hope that I'd been searching for all my life.
Chapter Twelve
The walkie crackled to life, and I grabbed it. “Tobi, are you busy?” Beau asked over the box.
“Just working on the dance stuff,” I answered, releasing the button. We were down to just days until the event, and it was crunch time.
“Mind if I drop by? I have something to show you.”
“Sure. I’m at the cabin. Just come in when you get here.”
“See you in five.”
I set the walkie down and closed the computer before I stood. I glanced at the bed, and a smile lifted my lips. Joe and I had spent so many hours together in that bed over the last few days. It had been less than three days since Joe and I made love for the first time, and now, we couldn’t stop. If he wasn’t working, he was here, ravishing my body and then holding me through the night. It filled my belly with the good kind of butterflies, but occasionally, the moths took over, and I worried that I was getting in too deep too quickly, and he was going to break my heart. I knew it was dumb, but after all these years, I worried that he wasn’t in love with me as much as he was infatuated with me. That would mean eventually he would tire of me and walk away.
I shook my head as I left the room. I had to stop thinking that way. He told me he loved me multiple times a day via text, phone, and in bed. Somehow, I had to learn how to stop questioning whether this was real. In my defense, it had only been three days, so I gave myself the grace of a little bit of insecurity along with the happiness and excitement. It helped having the distraction of the Christmas dance, as much as I hated to admit it. Later tonight, I planned to hook up Dolly and Jolene and do a few early sleigh rides around the ranch to make sure they could pull it. I didn’t want too much power, but I also didn’t want to tire one horse out and have to switch out in the middle of the evening. It would take a few runs to figure out the best horses to use. Dolly would be my lead horse, but I would have to decide how much pulling power I needed from the second horse and that would only happen with experimentation.
“Hey,” Beau said, coming in the door and closing it behind him. He stomped off his boots and shed his coat. “Cold out there.”
“Well, it is December in Wisconsin.”
“Where I grew up, it was cold in December when the mercury dropped to fifty-six. Little did I know how cold December could be when I was whining about having to wear a jacket.”
I laughed and plopped down on the couch. “I can’t relate since I grew up here. I suppose for a Texas boy, your first winter here was a rude awakening.”
“Like you don’t know,” he drawled. He held up a bag in his hand. “I brought you an early present.”
I rubbed my hands together with excitement. Beau was working on a unique pair of gloves for me to use while driving the sleigh, and I couldn’t wait to see them. “I bet they’re amazing, Beau!”
He reached in the bag and pulled out a pair of mitts unlike any ever made before. “I think I got them right, but let’s test the fit,” he said, kneeling in front of me.
“Is that bison fur?” I asked, rubbing my hand over the soft fur on the outside of the glove.
“It is, which makes these the warmest mitts you’ve ever had in your life.”
“I don’t doubt it. They’re beautiful as well. I don’t even want to wear them.”
“Then what good would they be?” he asked logically.
I had to chuckle and give him a point for that. “You know I’m going to abuse them, and that makes me feel bad.”
“I don’t think you’ll use these the same way you use your work gloves. These are only for riding. Let me show you.” He held up the right one. “I know it’s hard for you to squeeze your hand into the typical glove opening, so I added Velcro at the cuff. You can open them wider, get your hand all the way down in it, and then close the Velcro for a tighter fit at the wrist.”
“Oh, great idea!” I said, nodding as he showed me. “That is always a problem I have since my fingers don’t squish together like everyone else’s.”
“Right, so that’s one problem solved.”
He waited while I pulled the gloves on each hand and secured the Velcro. “They fit like a dream, Beau. Thank you!” I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him. He was smiling when I leaned back, but his cheeks were bright red.
“Not a problem, Miss Tobi, but there’s more.” He turned the palm over and located a leather strip I didn’t see hiding in the bison fur. “These are rein holders.”
“Rein holders?”
“That’s what I said,” he agreed, and I laughed.
