He laughed hard, throwing back his head. “I promise nothing.”

I had to admit, I was as curious as he was. I went to the bathroom and peed on the stick while Darsh set a timer. There was no nervousness. No pacing. I perched on the edge of the bathroom counter while my alpha let me lean my head against his chest. His heartbeat was steady. His scent my anchor of calm.

The timer went off and, without a word, he reached for the test.

“Tell me.”

“I was right. You have a pup inside you. Our baby.”

I sat up straight to gauge his reaction. “Are you happy?” I asked, eager to hear.

“I didn’t think I could be any happier than the night we mated and you marked me and there never will be. But this is a very close second, omega.

Chapter Twenty

Darsh

It was one thing to be excited about the baby, which I was, and another to realize what it could mean for my omega. Blaze was still a little tired and upping his water had helped with the thirst, but it was time for visiting a healer and making sure everything was as it should be.

Jabez generally kept his work as a healer separate from the club life, but he’d made some exceptions in the past, so I approached him with the request that he care for my omega while he was carrying our pup. I asked privately, so he wouldn’t feel obligated, but he kindly agreed, and we set an appointment at his office for my omega and me.

“You’re sure he’s okay with this?” Blaze asked as we exited the car and walked hand in hand toward the front door. “He’s a pretty busy man.”

“It’s fine.” The door had opened and the healer stood there, wearing his white coat. “I’m glad to be able to help you, Blaze. There aren’t many tigers in the area, but I have had some experience with large cats, so I hope I will be equipped to meet all of your needs. If you’d like to come inside, I need to get some information from you and your alpha before we do the fun part.”

Blaze frowned. “The exam is fun?”

Jabez waved us inside. “No, finding out what the baby is going to be is the fun part. If you want to know.”

“We haven’t even talked about it.” He placed his hand over his barely curving belly. “Alpha?”

“Up to you, omega. I can go either way.”

“Then, in that case, I just want to know if everything is going well and if there is anything we need to know.”

“Understood.” Jabez sat us down in his office and pulled out a clipboard. I didn’t even know anyone used those anymore, but while his information gathering might be old-fashioned, his examination room and the equipment it held were anything but. With all the questions answered to the healer’s satisfaction—by both of us—we entered the room where I helped my mate to undress and climb onto the steel table with its upholstered top and stirrups.

One very similar had been ordered for the medical play room in the new building, but that had never been a kink I’d wanted to explore. Although seeing my omega on it certainly made it sexier.

“All ready, then?” Jabez rapped on the doorframe before coming in. “I’d like to do a general exam before the ultrasound. Feet in the stirrups, Blaze.”

“This is not the fun part,” he grumbled as the healer pulled on a pair of gloves, sat on a wheeled stool, and rolled up the foot of the table. “Hold my hand, alpha?”

“Of course.”

The exam took only a few minutes, and when Jabez pushed back from the table, he stood up and rolled over a machine. “I’m going to squirt some gel on your belly. It’s going to be cold because the warmer I use for it died this morning, but nothing to do but grin and bear it.”

“I’ll bear it, but tigers don’t grin when they are cold. They snarl.”

Jabez shrugged. “As long as you don’t bite.”

The cold didn’t last long or at least the snarling didn’t because as soon as the screen came to life, my mate and I sucked in a breath simultaneously.

“Is that what I think it is?” I don’t know why I was so surprised, but somehow I’d only pictured one baby all along.

“Twins.” Jabez pointed out the salient points like feet and heads then stopped. “Yep, two of them. I can give you a rough due date, but in mixed matings, there’s always a little variance.”

Squeezing my hand, Blaze asked, “Are they tiger or wolf?”
