I grin and get up from the bed. “I shall feed you then.”
We freshen up in record time, before I lead her to themess hall. When we move past the sliding doors, L’Ren and D’Var are already there, and it smells incredible.
“I have missed your cooking, L’Ren.”
She smiles. “Flattery gets you an extra portion, you know that.”
“My mate needs food first.”
Fr’Ya rolls her eyes and walks towards L’Ren. “Your mate is her own person; yes, I need food. Sorry, I am so hungry I cannot think straight.”
L’Ren ushers her to sit and immediately hands her a bowl with dried roots.
“What is it?” Fr’Ya asks.
“Dried roots with seasoning, our version of chips. I am making some sort of version of space ramen for breakfast, but you look like you need something stat.”
Fr’Ya grins and starts eating. “This is delicious!”
L’Ren beams. “Thanks, I made it myself.”
The two keep on talking, and I focus on D’Var.
“How long till we get to the Ring?”
“Three days.”
I nod, that is good. That will give me more time to bond with Fr’Ya.
“How are things going with your mate?”D’Var asks me through our bond.
“She is warming up to me, but still wants to leave. Your mate gave me some excellent advice yesterday. About a shower, that went really well.”
“If it went like it did for me, I am happy for you, my friend.”
I arch a brow, D’Var is boyish and makes jokes, and sometimes he forgets I am still his captain.
L’Ren intervenes with steaming bowls of noodles, and we eat, while the females keep chatting.
After breakfast, I turn to my mate. “Will you be alright for a while? I need to do some work, but only for the rest of thismorning. After that, I will make sure D’Var and O’Rec handle my responsibilities.”
D’Var snorts, but Fr’Ya smiles at me. “I would like that, and that works fine. Maybe Lauren can show me around that garden she told me about?”
L’Ren perks up and starts chatting, so I give my mate a small kiss on her cheek before I leave for Command.
CHAPTER 38
Freya
Lauren takes me on a big tour of the ship. We start in the Cargo Bay, where they made a makeshift place for the cats to reside. They greet me the moment we enter, and Lauren scowls at them for a second. “These two kept crawling under the bushes. We figured they like the heat, so D’Var made some space for them.”
“Sorry, they have been so much trouble…”
“It’s okay.” She waves my concerns away. “It’s a good thing they are so adorable! O’Rec programmed the replicator with some meat-like foods, so they get all the protein they need.”
On impulse, I hug her. “Thank you!”
She laughs. “You’re welcome, now let me show you everything else.”
