“Lyra, heal her wounds. No talking, or I’ll cut your tongue out. Understand?” Vinny says.
“Yes, Master Vinny,” she whispers.
Lyra helps me stand, and we make our way back to a guest bedroom. The moment the door is shut, I smack her arm.
“Ow!” She laughs.
“You made me think that you died, you little bitch,” I frown.
“I nearly did. Vinny had someone revive me,” she says as she sits me down to start wiping my back with the healing clothes.
“I am with Zev and Ren,” I say. “I’m connected to both.”
“Ah, that makes sense. They have been close for their entire lives,” she says. “Why are you here?”
“Why didn’t you reach out to anyone?” I ask.
“I can’t,” she says. “I technically died. I can only connect with those whom I have seen before, but when you die, all of that goes away.”
“How have you gotten past the Hydrovita?” I ask.
“The mind control is in the pill. I’ve lost a significant amount of weight, so I am missing a lot of vital nutrients. The sludge has a lot of what I need, though,” she says. “Sometimes, I am able to sneak away for long enough to get to the ration stash that is still in the attic across the road. Why are you asking so many questions?”
“Because I have to make sure before I say this,” I say.
“I don’t know what to say besides, I hope the plan is to kill Vinny,” she says with a frown.
“Did he rape you?” I ask.
“He and Aaron both did. Probably twice a day. Every single day. They left for a few days once, but they locked me in the basement,” she explains. “That night you left; there were a lot of them. Even after I was brought back, they just kept going and going.”
“I’m so sorry,” I say tearfully.
“You didn’t know, honey. No one did. I know Zev would have helped me if he had known. I know all of you would have,” she says. “I’m just ready to go home.”
“Well… I’m going to kill them,” I say. “When they come in here again.”
“Your abilities,” she smiles. “Don’t tell me what it is. I want to be surprised.”
“When they die, we will have Ren and Zev coming in to help.”
“Everyone else?”
“The entire world, Lyra. We have the military from every country, but Balavix is the one who will take control. They have the resources and power to help everyone detox and start eating regular food,” I say.
“Hell, yeah,” she beams.
I can hear Vinny’s thoughts suddenly, so I drop my head, and Lyra does the same. “Are you done?” Vinny asks Lyra.
“Yes, Master Vinny,” Lyra says quietly.
“Go over to the bed. Both of you,” Aaron says.
I look up and narrow my eyes at him. “No,” I say. Lyra chuckles and drops the façade instantly.
“Excuse me?” Aaron growls, stepping closer to me. I stand and smile. He is about to slap me, so I lean back to make him miss, and Lyra laughs again. Vinny is about to grab me, but I let him. He snatches me by the hair.
“You know, Vinny… For being so afraid of the savages, you would think you’d make sure you didn’t marry someone genetically mutated,” I say with a grin. Fear flashes through his mind, and I laugh. “I’m going to love this a lot more than you two will.”
