I race back to the lounger and grab my top, tie it in place, and then follow dreamily in Penny’s wake as she rambles on about how amazing Singapore was and how much she loved the exhibit she helped curate during the eight weeks she was there.
She and her boyfriend Oren have an apartment in New York that they keep full-time, and they typically spend their non-working weeks there. But when Penny is missing me too much and she’s between events, they come stay here for a few weeks in the bedroom she grew up in.
“God, I have so much to tell you,” I say, collapsing on Penny’s bed as she unzips one of her many suitcases and begins rifling through things. “You won’t believe the shit that’s gone down in this town since the last time you were home.”
“Please update me on the goss.” She winks at me as she begins sorting her clothes, chucking some into a laundry bin for Beta to grab in the next day or two and a few pieces into a secondary hamper for dry cleaning.
“Well, Lucas and Lennon finally got together. Officially.”
“That’s only been on the horizon for god knows how long. Did everyone screamFinally!once they went out in public together?”
I snort. “Basically. But Lucas also has a half-sister who moved to town from Arizona.”
Penny’s head whips my way.
“What?”
“Her name is Hannah and she’s dating Wyatt. And in a strange twist of fate, Remmy is marrying Ben.”
Penny’s eyes blink rapidly as she tries to assess the information I’ve given her.
“Are you serious?”
I nod. “Yup.Andshe’s like, five months pregnant.”
My sister’s mouth falls open and she just stares at me for a long moment.
“See, you move away, and the world falls apart.”
She rolls her eyes.
“Clearlynotif ‘the world falling apart’ is when all your friends finally couple up. Though I guess it could feel that way if you’re the sad single sap of the bunch,” she jests, poking me in the rib cage and sticking out her bottom lip in faux sadness.
Swatting her hand away, I tilt my head back so it’s hanging upside down off the edge of her bed.
“Who says I’m the sad single sap?”
Penny’s eyes widen. “Shut. Up.”
I grin, unable to hide my glee at how things are going with me and Logan. “I mean, it’s nothing official, but it’s pretty great.”
“I’m sorry, but if you’re telling me about anyone, that feels pretty damn official. What’s his name? What’s he like? Describe him from head to toe.”
Sighing, I close my eyes and picture him then try to give my sister a full image of the sexy doctor who is quickly wrapping me up in knots.
She shakes her head at me when I’m done. “Of course I finally break up with Oren and you find the man of your dreams. NowI’mgonna be the third wheel at fancy dinners.”
I sit up quickly, the movement giving me a bit of vertigo before the world finally rights itself. “Are you serious?”
She nods, a pinched expression crossing her face. “Yeah.”
I flop back on the bed like a starfish. “Oh, thank god.”
A pillow sails through the air and lands on my face.
“Thanks for the support,” Penny sasses at me.
I sit up quickly and jump off the bed, crossing over to my sister and wrapping my arms around her shoulders.
