I nod. “Of course I do.” I pause. “Besides, the only thing you were faking was our relationship, because I know it definitely wasn’t the orgasms.”

She bursts into laughter and I raise my fist in the air, knowing I’ve won this round.

“Oh my god, I love you.”

I grin at her. “I love you, too.”

I give her a long, hard kiss, the kind I’ll get to give her every day for the rest of our lives, and I hope she feels it as deeply as I do.

CHAPTER26

BEN

“You’re sure?” I ask as I park the car. “Because if you change your mind, I can take us home right now.”

Remmy grins at me. “I’m sure. I’ve actually been looking forward to today.”

“You have not.”

Her smile falls. “Okay, maybe I’m petrified, but hey…” She pauses as I laugh. “At least I’m trying, right?”

I nod, taking her hand in mine and kissing her knuckles.

We both get out, each of us in jeans and casual tops, and we walk down the road toward our brunch destination.

Mary’s.

She told me about the Monday Mournings invitation. I know Wyatt’s been doing this shit since he was in high school, but I’ve never been invited or wanted to attend.

Hell, even now I don’t want to attend, but it seems important to Remmy, to spend time with the people she was friends with when she was younger, to see if they are people she wants to continue friendships with now as she starts to rebuild a life for herself here.

When we walk up to the entrance, we bypass the hostess, Remmy leading the way as we walk hand in hand over to the long table in the corner of the outside patio.

We’re not the last ones to arrive, but we’re not the first either. Lucas and Lennon are already here, and so are Paige and Hannah.

“Hey,” Remmy says, her voice soft as she comes to a stop next to an empty chair. “We’re still good to join in this morning, yeah?”

There’s a pause, a silence for a moment that makes me wonder if I need to get Remmy out of here as quickly as possible.

But then I hear it, from the far side of the table.

From Paige.

“Absolutely. We’re glad you’re here.”

Remmy bites her lips nervously, nodding before taking a seat one over from Hannah, leaving a spot open for Wyatt. I take my spot next to hers.

“Where’s Wyatt?” I ask.

“He’s coming. He just said he wanted to swing by and drop off something for Ivy first.”

I nod. I’ve been much more firm about being on the steady rotation for Ivy at the hospital over the past few days. It gives me a chance to chat with Logan, who said he’s gotten in touch with his buddy at Seattle Children’s and is waiting for a packet to get delivered full of tests and other paperwork Ivy will need to complete before they can know if she’s a good fit for the trial.

I haven’t mentioned any of it to my family yet, mostly because I want to manage their emotions like Logan said we should. I know my hopes are set on this trial, but I don’t want to disappoint Ivy if it doesn’t pan out.

“I’m gonna swing by today and drop off some flowers for her,” Paige pipes in. “Maybe play some card games or something.”

“That’s an awesome idea.”
