Josslyn waves, smiling her face off.
“Ahhhh, sothisis who you replaced us with,” Rebecka jokes. “I see how it is. And now you bring her here to flaunt her, to rub it in our faces. Thanks a lot.”
Titters rise up from around the table.
“Why don’t you guys join us?” Lucas says. “We just got here a few minutes ago. We haven’t even put our orders in yet.”
A part of me wants to say yes, wants to sit down and chat. But I don’t know if it’s sincere, or if it’s just Lucas being…
“We ordered bottomless mimosas.”
My eyes fly to Paige’s, and I can’t hide my surprise.
Her expression is neutral, but I can see a softness in her eyes. Something that looks a bit like…grace.
I clear my throat, looking around at the group, seeing open expressions.
They may not be my best friends anymore, but I don’t know if they ever were. I don’t think I was ever in a place where I could really have a best friend other than Lucas, who I clung to.
The people sitting here now are years older, years wiser, weathered by some of the bullshit that happens in the world and, for whatever reason, they seem open to welcoming me back.
“You know, today I’m hanging out with Josslyn. She flew into town to surprise me and I want to focus on her, but…” I pause. “Maybe I could come next week.” I clear my throat, my eyes flitting around the table. “With Ben.”
Wyatt leans forward, his hand still wrapped around Hannah’s, and looks me in the eyes.
“Sounds perfect. We’ll see you next week.”
CHAPTER24
REMMY
“It was so great to see you,” I say, wrapping my arms around Josslyn and squeezing her tight. “I just wish you could have stayed longer.”
“Yeah, I know—I’m pretty awesome. But three days is really all I can handle with you and the man looking at each other with smoldering eyes all the time.”
We both laugh and I step back, slipping back to Ben’s side.
“Next time, we’ll come visit you,” he says, his arm around my shoulders.
I get a flash, a picture in my mind of the two of us and a baby flying out to visit Josslyn in Colorado.
The grin that overtakes my face is massive. All-consuming. And I snuggle into Ben as Josslyn climbs into the back seat of the car he hired to take her back to the airport.
“She’s great,” he says.
“She is.”
I wave as it drives off then turn and take Ben by the hand.
“Speaking of great,” I say, “you wanna know what’s great?”
He grins, following me inside. “Hmmm?”
“Shower sex.”
His eyebrows rise. “I’m gonna say I was not expecting that to be what came out of your mouth, but I’m totally okay with the very dramatic subject change.”
I laugh, giggling as I race into the house.
