I’m so enjoying this friendship. So valuing this beautiful, strong woman who has entered my life at the perfect time. A time when we both are looking for someone to rely on. Someone who wants us around. Who thinks we’re good people and that we’re not lost.

And I decide that this isn’t the right moment to talk about Fin. About how I feel. Or what’s to come.

There will be another opportunity in the future. A time to ask her what she would think if I told her that I was interested in her brother. She might think it’s slutty. Or she might just tell me she doesn’t want to hear sex noises through the walls. Who knows?

But right now? Fin isn’t important.

What’s important is my sweet friend Susie, and our last minute, impromptu movie night.

“I really value you as a friend,” she continues. “I know we haven’t known each other that long, but the things you say matter to me. And I feel like you came into my life at just the right time. When I needed someone who could get to know me as a normal person and not as an addict. You know?”

My eyes prickle, her sentiment echoing mine from just a moment ago. I stick my glass out to her.

“I really value you as a friend, too,” is all I say, clinking my chalice against hers. “Cheers.”

The smile on her face is pure joy.

“Now, let’s watch some sexual chocolate.”

And that gets a laugh.

We go through two whole bottles of wine, and it’s the most we’ve laughed together as friends.
