Not even when I see Ashley in my mind again for just a brief second. That reproachful look she used to have, the one that popped onto her face more and more often as time passed.
Instead, I shove that image out of my mind, trying to wrack my brain for something to say. A reason why I’m here.
Carly opens the door, the surprise on her face evident at my presence. She’s taken down her hair, and it rests in wild, undulating waves on her shoulders.
For a minute, it’s all I can focus on.
“What can I do for you Fin Diego?” she says.
I clutch the doorframe, leaning heavily on it, the stupid nickname turning something over in my chest. “Just making sure you got home okay.”
She smiles at me, but there’s a hint of sadness there, and I know it’s my fault. She crosses her arms and continues to look up at me. “You know I got home just fine. So, Fin, I’ll ask again. Why are you here?”
I stand mute, not really sure what to say. Over twenty-eight years of life and I’ve been charming for every single minute, andthisis the moment when my brain decides to stop working?
“You know, you come across as this incredibly confident, quiet, broody man who knows what life is supposed to be like, what he wants.” She shakes her head, a spark of mischief igniting in her eyes. “But I think you’re just as uncertain about what you want as the rest of us, aren’t you?”
I don’t know what to say to that, so I just stand there. But my eyes, with a mind of their own, suddenly take in the fact that Carly is – again – in that see-through top and no pants.
My dick takes notice too.
“Well, how about this,” she says, stepping into me. “I know whatIwant, and if it doesn’t align with your plan, just go ahead and stop me.”
I’m confused for only a second before she rocks up onto her toes and kisses me.
Her lips press into mine and then her mouth parts, and her tongue peeks out, seeking entrance, teasing my lips.
And like a fool, I stand there and do nothing.
