I had four servers for the night, so I informed them through their earpieces that it was time to start shutting down. I wanted to get away from Cash as quickly as I could. He smelled so damn good on top of how good he looked, and my pussy was wet. It didn’t help that he was staring at me like his mind was on our kiss too. I felt the heat on my neck and back from him following close behind.
Instead of letting me help my team, he grabbed my hand and led me toward a table where the mayor and deputy mayor were seated. After he introduced me, he led me to five more tables and gave introductions. I was glad I had my cards on me when I did events because everyone enjoyed the food and wanted to know how to book me for future events. Well, everyone except one bitter ass bitch at the last table.
She eye-fucked Cash as he talked. Initially, she nodded when he asked everyone if they enjoyed the food, but when he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me into his side, she frowned.
“Actually, I didn’t care for the menu,” she said. “I could have done better than that probably for a third of what you paid her. Or, you could have paid me with your love.”
Her shameless flirting would have usually amused me, but since it was directed toward Cash, it pissed me off. I had absolutely no reason to feel territorial of this man, but I did.
“Well seeing as I saw you with three plates, you obviously enjoyed it enough for seconds and thirds,” I replied before I could tap into my professional side. “Or is it because you’re broke and don’t know where your next mealwill come from when you leave? If that’s the case, Cash is the man for you, seeing as he does food drives for those in need.”
“Whoa.” A bark of laughter escaped him before he all but dragged me away from the table. “Sugar Baby.”
“Oop. Not you calling me by my real name. Does this mean I’m in trouble?”
Cash smiled as he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close. That was when I realized he’d pulled me to the dance floor.
“Why you let that girl pull you out of character like that?” he reprimanded. “You know your food good. She’s just a hater.”
“I know,” I whined, wrapping my arms around him, “but she pissed me off.”
“You should’ve let me handle it.”
“I don’t need you to fight my battles, Cassius. I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.”
“I know you are, but when I’m around, I’m the one that’s going to be taking care of you.”
I didn’t respond right away. Our eyes remained locked as “Forever Mine” by The O’Jays serenaded us.
“This gon’ be our song,” he continued, holding me closer. Tighter. “It’s the first song I had you in my arms for, so I’ma remember it forever.”
I giggled and shook my head. “My cousin’s debt is officially cleared, so we technically don’t have to see each other after this, Cassius.”
“I know we don’t have to.” He lowered himself to my ear and damn near whispered, “But what if I want to?”
Between the sound of his husky voice and the feel of his breath against my ear, I shivered.
“Cash . . .”
“You got my interest, Suge. That means more than you’ll ever know. I don’t need the distraction of dating right now, but I can’t lie and make it seem like I want this to be the last time I see you.”
I didn’t feel the need to play hard to get, so I confessed, “I don’t want it to be the last time either.”
The left side of his mouth lifted into a smile. When the song was over, he told the DJ to play it again. That time, I listened to the words more intently than I ever had. When he told me it fit us, I wanted to tell him that he didn’t have to run game, but I honestly didn’t think he was. What was happening between us confused me. I needed Cash to give me clarity, but he seemed confused by it too. Only difference was, he was brave enough to keep whatever this was going. Only question was, would I be brave enough too?
By the time our dance was over, all eyes were on us. It was in that moment that I remembered who Cash was. We disconnected, and I quickly made my way back to the kitchen. My heart raced and breathing was ragged as I leaned against the wall.
“Bestie,” Rittany called, but I shook my head.
“Not now, Rittany. Please.”
“Okay, but we’re definitely going to talk about this tomorrow.”
I nodded as I continued to try and gain my composure. It may have been easy for me to hold Rittany off, but it wasn’t that easy to stop Tyreek from asking me a million questions. One second, he liked the idea of me dating Cash. The next, he had the audacity to forbid it. I made it clear to him that nothing was going on between us, but I didn’t know how long I’d be able to say that and it be true.
