“When?” he growled savagely while wrapping his hand around her throat, ready to destroy the object of her affection.
“When I saw a picture of you,” she cried.
His jealousy abated instantly and he stepped away. Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath. She would be his.
“Why are you here?”
“To work for you,” she responded.
She flinched as he touched her neck again, but this time, it was only to feel her pulse.
“Tell me the truth, Seraphina,” he ordered.
“I’m here to save you.”
“Save me?” He laughed and stepped away.
It was a fucking joke.
“I was sent to save your soul, Jasper.”
“Jasper Conrad died two hundred years ago, sweetheart. Be careful making a deal with the devil. There is nothing here to save. If you try, I will destroy you and relish in it.”
“That’s not true.” The compassion in her touch caused him to jerk away as though she had burned him. “You’re lost, and I will save you.”
“You can’t save me,” he hissed.
She radiated energy unlike any other as she closed her eyes. An ethereal glow emanated from her skin. He needed to leave before he fell on his knees in worship.
Though she wasn’t the first of her kind he’d encountered, she was the most precious. Saving him was a waste of her energy. And he would prove it by breaking her will, forcing her to submit, and grinding her light beneath his boot. He would enjoy every fucking second of her fall from grace.
“HR is on the fifth floor. They’ll set you up with all the necessary documents.”
The tightness in his chest didn’t abate when Seraphina left. Her scent lingered in the room, teasing his nostrils. He needed air to put his head on straight and left the office as quickly as possible.
He pulled out his phone and texted one of his regulars, Amanda.
J: Need to see you immediately.
A: Can’t today. I’m busy.
J: I’ll pay triple.
A: I’ll swing by as soon as I can.
With her on the way, he would survive the day. Amanda was one of his regular blood donors, and tonight, he wouldn’t just satisfy his hunger, he would satisfy his lust as the angel left him hard.
Save me.He scoffed at the thought. How could an angel with a body built for sin, save him?
THREE
Seraphina
The minutes ticked by slowly, making the morning last an eternity. After her paperwork was completed, she was escorted back to her desk, just outside Jas’s office. She sat down and stared at the door, without direction, there wasn’t much to do.
She closed her eyes and summoned her starseed. A celestial’s starseed was as important as a human heart. It connected them to the immortal realm and each other regardless of distance. Keeping her wits about her around Jas was imperative to a successful mission.
She performed menial tasks, such as watering plants and diverting calls before replying to e-mails. Her experience at home prepared her well to assume the role as the devil’s assistant.
