But you love her and want to save her?
She nods vehemently.
I want you to focus your power on the snipers in the rafters. Try to pinpoint their location.
She gives me a subtle nod this time, careful not to give anything away.
If you can take care of them, I will take therest. And Maddy, if you want us to get out here alive and save little Alexi, you can’t hold back.
Again, she nods lightly, but I see the concern in her eyes.
Focus. I need you to get out of this alive.
Then I turn away and assess the situation properly before I strike.
By my count, I see sixteen men.
This should be fun.
FOURTEEN
Maddy
Ifocus on the men in the rafters. Each one has convoluted thoughts, but they all will pull the trigger in a heartbeat, snuffing out the life of this unselfish man before me.
And that I can’t allow.
A moment ago, I was willing to give up my life to save Alexi, but after seeing his concern and selfless actions, I would rather die by his side than leave him ever again.
With my mind, I force each and every sniper to jump from their hiding spots. One by one, the sickening thuds on hard concrete alert the men on the ground that something is amiss.
They turn on Alejandro with twisted intentions, leaving me the opportunity to go and search for Alexi. I run from cage to cage searching for her, screaming her name.
“Are you Maddy?” a woman in the third cage asks tentatively.
I rush forward and grab the bars, “Yes, I am here for Alexi. Do you know where I can find her?”
The owner’s head rolls on her shoulder. Clearly, she is drugged. But she is still my only hope.
“They keep the children in the back. Because the crying becomes too much for them to stand.”
I thank her and run toward the door she points to.
Before I can reach for the handle, I feel a gun being thrust into my side.
“Thought you could escape me, didn’t you?” Benito says while his arm wraps around my waist.
“Actually, I would have come back for you and made you dig your insides out of your worthless body.”
I struggle to get loose, but he anticipates my moves. He presses me against the wall before he licks my cheek. “Careful, stripper. If you flap your mouth anymore, I won’t let you see her before we leave.”
I grapple for control and try unsuccessfully to get into his mind. When I realize it is not going to happen, I still immediately. If I can just let her know that I came for her, that might give her some hope that could keep her alive when all the evil starts closing in on her.
Benito forces me through the door, and we turn right into the corridor. I can hear the distinct whining of little ones coming from the room at the very end.
We make our way there slowly, Benito strolling to keep the gun trained on my head and keeping me in line.
I open the door, and what I see horrifies me to the very core of my soul.
