With a flick of Garroway’s hand, both armies disappear. The mangled flesh stamped into the ground now all molded back into single bodies and the blood contained in its rightful owner.

The world now glistens as if the war didn't happen. The only things missing are Achaz and Ambrose. Rightfully so.

And I am just too exhausted and terribly numb in the moment to even begin to process... well, my eternity thus far.

Chapter 61

The Demon

“Ithought I lost you,” Lucifer mumbles as he stares down the empty throne.

I don’t know how I manage it, but I grant him a smirk that causes my cheeks to ache.

“I wasn’t going to let that happen.”

“For a minute, I kind of thought you would. It’s been a long afterlife, Lynx. I don’t think I would blame you if you had wanted to leave, but I’m really glad you didn’t.”

His hand rests heavily on my shoulder as he searches my eyes. The adrenaline from moments ago is still thudding vibrantly beneath my skin. I know it’s the only thing that is really keeping me going.

“Thanks. I’ll have to deal with whatever that means later, but for now, I’m glad too.”

“Ada will be happy to hear we’re relocating.” He chuckles. “I’m sure Briar will, too.”

I look over at the dazed angel, still sitting on her haunches. She looks like a mad queen dressed in red and bejeweled in our enemy.

“No. I don’t think we’ll be staying in Primordialis or Heaven. Our home is Hell.”

“Then my throne is yours.”

My head snaps back to face him. “I can’t?—”

“You will. You’ve earned it. Think about it this way, we will always have balance between worlds should you and I hold the power.”

The former Devil isn’t wrong. As I mull it over in my mind, the more I begin to accept that this is our future. Slowly, I nod.

“Yes. Okay, then.”

Lucifer pulls me into him, and we briefly embrace. Between us, there is only love and friendship which will last an eternity. Pulling away, I begin towards my angel.

Her head tilts up to look at me and the tail of her crown drags along the floor. Offering my hand, she takes it.

“What?” I chuckle, questioning her wide eyes and silence.

“You’re staying,” she whispers.

“Yeah, I’m staying.”

Reaching up on her tippy toes, she cradles my face in her hands.

“I love you, Lynx.”

Briar doesn’t give me a chance to return the sentiment, but she doesn’t need to because she knows my heart belongs to her. Always.

As her mouth smashes against mine, we descend into Hell, our forever home.
