“Is it cleaner in here, or is it just me?” Otto asked.

All five of them rounded the corner into the kitchen.

The sound of Ace groaning behind me made me smile. I wasn’t sure if it was because the bottom of my ass was out as I grabbed the potpies. Or because he was excited for the delicious dinner I’d made. Either way, it was a win for me. I set the potpies down on top of the stove and turned around with a smile. “Hey, boys.”

“This smells amazing, Zoey,” Bennett said.

“Just wait until you taste.” Yeah, I was way too horny for my own good. I wanted to feed them. We were going to need sustenance for the evening I had planned. “Will one of you grab plates?”

Titan grunted in response.

Okay then.

“I’ve got it,” Ace said as he opened up the cupboard.

“I’ll grab us some drinks.” Huxley opened up the fridge and whistled. “The fridge is fully stocked too.”

Otto peered into the fridge. “You’re spoiling us.”

“That’s the plan,” I said.

“You’re always one with a plan, aren’t you?” Titan said under his breath as he walked past me. He opened up the pantry and grabbed a can of soup.

What was he doing?

He undid the top and poured the contents into a bowl.

Was he seriously not going to eat the potpie I’d made for him? Out of spite?

He went to put it in the microwave, but I grabbed the bowl from his hands and dumped it into the sink.

“Sit down,” I said. “I made you dinner.”

Otto snickered behind me.

“Let me guess,” Titan said. “Instead of love being the secret ingredient, you added a big dose of lies?”

“Enough,” Bennett said. “Titan, sit down. Zoey made us dinner and we’re all going to eat it.”

I stared at Titan. You heard him. Sit your big, angry ass down.

Titan grunted and headed into the dining room.

“Sorry about that,” Bennett said. “He’s still cooling off from earlier.”

“I guess so.” I still owed him an apology for lying. I’d tried earlier at the bank, but it had just ended with him shifting into a werecat. It made me nervous to try again.

“Come on.” Bennett slid his hand into mine. “I’m excited to try this dinner you made us.” He pulled me into the dining room as the twins and Otto grabbed everything else we’d need.

We all sat down at the table. And...things were awkward. Everything felt off. This was not how I wanted tonight to go. I was supposed to be showing them how well this worked. Not proving the fact that it would never.

“This is delicious,” Otto said.

I smiled at him. “Thank you.”

Everyone else agreed. Well, everyone but Titan. He was eating it though, so maybe that was progress?

I cleared my throat. “Have you heard back from either of your contacts yet?”
