“I think Kebe is a vampire,” Ace said. “A really powerful one.”

Chapter 14

Friday

Zoey

“What do we do?” I whispered.

“No need to whisper,” Ace said. “Vampires have really good hearing.”

Really? Crap.I wondered how many times Callum had overheard something he shouldn’t have. No wonder Kebe was so good at spying. And no wonder she got along well with Callum and hated my boyfriends. Vampires and werecats really seemed to hate each other. I remembered all those choice words Kebe had used to describe my boyfriends.Dirty and crass.Weren’t vampires super old? You’d think they’d have better manners at this point in their lives.

“Let’s just act normal,” Huxley said. “Convince her to come back to the bank with us. We’ll figure out what to do with her once she’s secured.”

By that, I knew he meant locked up in one of their vaults. They were planning on killing Kebe. I didn’t like the girl, but still. Murder wasn’t exactly my thing. Despite the fact that I’d tried to hit Callum with garlic on several occasions. Also, Callum would never let them hurt Kebe. Their weird connection kind of made sense now.

We’d figure out what to do with Kebe later though. Right now, I was just happy to get Kebe out of my house.

“Okay, just be cool guys.” I took a deep breath, walked up to my front door, and unlocked it. The door creaked open. I didn’t remember my door being so creaky. The creepiness made it feel like midnight instead of the middle of the day.

I shivered. The air was almost as chilly in here as it was outside. I felt like such an idiot. My thermostat wasn’t on the fritz. It just felt colder when Kebe was around because Kebe was a freaking vampire! Callum was always so cold too. He didn’t necessarily make a whole house cold. But then again, he wasn’t a “really powerful” vampire. Or at least, I didn’t think he was. He seemed like a normal enough vampire. What am I even thinking right now?

A floorboard creaked behind me and I jumped.

“It’s just me, Zoey,” Ace said and put his hand on my back. “What happened to being cool?”

“I’m too cold to be cool.”

Huxley laughed. “It really is cold in here.”

“I thought my thermostat was broken but…it’s definitely her.” I stopped at the bottom of the stairs.

“Do you think she’s upstairs?” Ace asked.

“Yeah, she’s in my bedroom.”

“What is she doing in your bedroom? I thought you didn’t trust her?”

“I don’t.” Hopefully Grudge was still entertaining Kebe, or else there was no way she wasn’t hearing us talking about her. “But I asked her to take over my MyFanatics account.”

“Interesting,” Huxley said.

I turned to look up at him. “Make sure you flirt with her a little so she feels comfortable.”

He raised his eyebrow at me.

“Come on.” I walked up the stairs. My bedroom door was closed, which was a good sign. I knocked and opened it without waiting for a reply.

Kebe was sitting on my bed in just a bra and thong, deepthroating a banana.

She screamed around the banana, pulled it out of her mouth, and chucked it against the wall. And then she screamed again and threw her arms over her chest.

“Hey,” Huxley said with a smile.

This was coming a littletooeasy for him. What happened to him hating vampires?

“Hey, Zoey,” Grudge said from the screen. “We’re a little busy here. Mind coming back later?”
