“Yeah,” Bennett agreed as his hand fell to my thigh. “It’s Titan.”

I looked across the tiny aisle at where Huxley and Ace were sitting.

Ace knocked his foot against mine. “It’s Titan.”

“It’s Titan,” Huxley said with a nod.

I couldn’t help but smile at all of them. “You’re right.” They had to be. “It’s Titan. You won’t hear any more pessimism from me.”

“Damn right,” Otto said and tickled my side.

I laughed and slapped his hand away.

“Are we going to talk about him?” Bennett asked and gestured toward Grudge who had fallen asleep in one of the chairs.

“What about him?” I asked.

Bennett stared at me. “What should we do with him? Should one of us drive him back to your old place? Or...put him on a train out of town?”

I laughed. “He’s fine in that chair.”

“If you say so.”

“Don’t be jealous,” I said. “Grudge and I are just friends.”

Bennett folded his arms across his chest.

“Besides, rumor has it that you like to share,” I whispered.

“I like to share you with my friends. Not a blue-haired stranger.”

“Hm.” I nuzzled into his side. He had no idea how comforting his words were to hear. Especially now that he didn’thaveto share anymore. He was cured. They all were. But I was hopeful that nothing had to change. I stared at the doors, willing a doctor to come through. Please let nothing have to change. Let Titan be okay.

Chapter 33

I watched as Callum took a tentative bite of his hamburger. His eyes grew round and he stared at me. “This is better than the meat and potatoes I remember.”

I laughed as he took a huge second bite. I wasn’t sure I’d ever seen him look this happy and carefree before. He was practically inhaling his burger and fries.

“I like this cheese better than the Yankee one,” he said.

That was probably good. Because I didn’t know what Yankee cheese was. If it even still existed, it might be hard to find these days.

“And who knew that thick milk could taste so good?” He drank half his milkshake in one gulp.

“It’s a milkshake,” I said with a laugh. “Not thick milk.”

“It’s definitely thicker than normal milk though. At least that I remember. You’d think it would be sour, but it’s so sweet.”

I smiled. “It’s more ice cream than milk in there, that’s why it’s sweet. Oh my God. Callum, have you had ice cream before?”

“No, but I’ve always wanted to taste it. Ice cream was a new delicacy when I was young. But my family wasn’t wealthy enough to try it.”

I guess it made sense that it was super expensive back then. Since there were no freezers. “You have to try it next. There are so many flavors.”
