They need to know about tire failure and fires and spin-offs and every other single thing that could go wrong that puts our lives in danger. And why we still race despite all that.

I turn back to them, and they flinch. But that’s probably because Maddock is still glowering behind me.

“Once you get approved, you guys are going to be driving these cars non-stop for weeks to make sure you’re up to speed for your charity race—pun intended. So get back to me after Diego has shown you the video, and you can tell me how easy you think racing in F1 is,” I say.

I give them another one of my winning smiles before signaling Diego to get them out of here.

“Okay, everyone!” Jacob claps as he calls out again. “Time to move on.”

As people file out, Maddock and Everest stay stock still. I need to know what they are planning to do in case they get in my way.

Yeah, maybe I said something about us playing together as a pack, but that’s after I get my alone time with Harmony.

Maybe I’m not desperate to win on the track, but I want to be first with her.

Harmony has only been gone for five minutes, but they’re both shifting their weight and looking around like they’re going to bolt, same as me.

“Aren’t you going to lunch?” I ask sweetly. I need them to hurry on so I can go to my omega.

Everest shakes his head. “I need to work out where I went wrong with that stop.”

We all know it was because Harmony’s perfume smells so mouth-wateringly lush that there were other alphas throwing longing glances at both the car and me. If they think they’re getting anywhere near her with us three here, they are in for a fight.

Almost everyone has gone, so I step toward the rear door, and good old Maddock comes along with me.

“What are you doing?” I ask him. But he just narrows his eyes at me.

“I could say the same thing. Why did you have your hands all over her?”

I arch a brow. “Because we were racing together? I hug you for that long after a race, but you're such a prickly guy that I don't hang around to get stabbed.”

“Very funny,” he says flatly. “She’s my former student; I should be the one making sure she’s okay after the race.”

“Emphasis on ‘former’. She’s got nothing to do with you. She barely even looked at you during the briefing. If she cared thatyou used to train her, I’m sure she would have shown it a bit more, no?”

His muscles tense as his glare grows stronger.

“We were focused on our jobs. Her job is to learn. Our job is to teach her—you don’t have to be involved in her personal life at all,” he says.

“I heard you didn’t even want to train her, so what are you doing right now?”

“She's my responsibility,” he growls.

“Or is she mine?” I grin back. “Why don’t we ask her and see what she wants to do? I’m really happy to keep arguing with you. But there’s an omega who needs an alpha, and I'll be damned if you’re the one who helps her.”

His nostrils flare as he understands what I mean, and I throw him a wink just to wind him up that little bit more.

“Maddock? A word?” Jacob calls, and my grin turns into a smirk.

“Oh dear, what a shame. I guess it's up to little ol’ me then.” I shrug without a single drop of apology. I'd be happy to take Everest with me, but I don’t want to have to struggle with Maddock for her attention.

“You asshole,” he growls, and I feel a sense of triumph that only comes when I annoy him.

“Don't worry, Maddock. I'll take proper care of our ‘student’.”

I laugh at his totally fearsome growl before Jacob drags him away. I look to see if Everest is coming, but he just keeps staring at her car.

The second I get away from the garage, I shoot off, running at a full sprint, following her scent like breadcrumbs leading me home.
