“I hope you’re hungry,” I say, resting the food on the railing between us.

“Starving.”

The yacht bounces over the water, and Adrian catches the plate before it becomes fish food. He looks around, searching for something, then holds my hand and draws me to the only empty seat at a crowded table. Without asking, he claims the seat for himself and pulls me onto his lap.

“Eat,” he says, taking a bite of fish.

I reach for the cutlery, realizing that I only grabbed one pair for myself and now Adrian is using it. He sees the dilemma on my face and passes me the fork… that was just in his mouth. If I use the same fork, is that on par with kissing Adrian? Of course it’s not, but still… Adrian’s germs will be in my mouth. Is it weird that I want all of his germs? I want to smother myself in Adrian essence until his molecules bond with mine and we are inseparably one. I want him to kiss me so hard that we’re forced to breathe in the same air until there’s only carbon dioxide left between us and we pass out from all our intense kissing.

Wow. I’m weird.

“You got an issue with boy germs?” he asks, noticing my silence.

If only he knew the obsessive thoughts that were traveling through my mind. I spear a piece of fish with the fork and place it in my mouth. All the little Verena molecules in my mouth are in a screaming frenzy, having multiple orgasms right now. Much like my dream at the start of this week.

“Hey,” Adrian whispers, nodding at something in the distance. Two people are grabbing a set of stand up paddle boards. Jake and Jannah. “Let’s go paddle boarding too so they can see us together.”

“Not really my kind of thing. In case you’ve forgotten, I’m not coordinated with sports. I won’t be able to stand up on that thing. It will be like yoga again with me falling.”

“I’ll teach you how to balance on the board,” he says. “You’ll be a natural in no time. It will be fun. And we’ll be far enough away from the two Js that you won’t notice them.”

“What’s the point if they can’t see us?”

“Of course they’ll seeus. But we’ll have no recognition of them because we’ll be so consumed with each other, laughing and making out in the water. Happily in love.”

“Oh my gosh.” I shove him, secretly loving his joke. “Are you this much of a flirt when you have a girlfriend?”

“You are my girlfriend.”

“Arealgirlfriend,” I whisper.

He shrugs. “Go ask Isabelle. While you’re at it, ask her if I’m good in bed. I’m sure you’re dying to find out.”

I roll my eyes and laugh.

“Seriously, what do you say to paddle boarding?”

“My parents want us to join them on the hiking track.”

Adrian takes another mouthful of fish and swallows. “Hiking is way worse than paddle boarding. You’ll get all hot and sweaty. I’ll tell your parents we want some alone time.”

“I’ve taken my wetsuit off. The material will be all cold and wet now. I don’t want to squeeze back into that thing.”

“So, don’t wear it,” he suggests. “Ernie said stingers don’t enter shallow water.”

“He did?”

“Were you not listening to anything he said?”

“It was kind of difficult to concentrate when you were holding me like that.”

He grins. “Come on, Vee. It will be fun.”

That damn grin. It wins every time.

As soon as the yacht anchors at Whitehaven Beach, Adrian and I follow everyone to shore with our board and paddle. I’m lost for words at how beautiful this beach is. My toes wiggle in the purest white sand I’ve ever seen. The water is as clear as glass with sand marbling through it, creating magnificent patterns.

Aside from the few of us who intend on swimming, everyone else disperses into the hiking track, set on seeing wildlife and gaining a higher view of the artwork of the water.
