‘Actually, I do,’ she replies as she grabs her phone from her bag. ‘Have you heard of One in a Mil?’

‘I haven’t,’ I reply.

‘It’s a dating app, strictly for celebrities, high-profile individuals, high-net-worth/high-flying businesspeople,’ she explains. ‘Basically, you have to be very famous or very rich to use it.’

‘Oh, perfect for me then,’ I joke sarcastically.

Kelly laughs.

‘It just might be,’ she replies. ‘I’m here in your chair for most of the day, right? What if I change my display name and profile pic on the app, so that it looks like it’s your profile? It’s not like I’m using the app at the moment. I mean, who’s going to notice?’

‘Who’s going to notice that I’m not rich or famous?’ I say. ‘Anyone with eyes?’

‘Airdrop me some photos of yourself,’ she demands. ‘Actually, I’ll just pick some from your Insta. In fact, take a selfie with me too. I’ll put on your profile that you are a hairstylist to the stars, because that is true.’

I laugh.

‘Do you really think this will work?’ I reply.

‘Let’s give it a go and see,’ she says. ‘Can I chat on your behalf?’

‘Go for it,’ I reply. ‘I’m probably at my most charming when I’m someone else.’

‘Look, this isn’t necessary,’ Tom interrupts. ‘I’ve got a genuine celeb coming in, any minute, and I’m going to set Gigi up with him.’

‘Well, you do that, and I’ll do this, and we can see who finds her the better date,’ Kelly suggests with a grin.

‘Game on,’ Tom replies, before heading back to reception.

Game on?Sohappy they’re finding my love life so entertaining. But if either of their plans come off, I might be on to something good.

Kelly leans back in the chair, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

‘Oh, playing matchmaker for someone else is ten times more entertaining than looking for love for yourself,’ she tells me. ‘Been there, done that, swore off dating anyone remotely rich or famous ever again. Don’t let me put you off, though – this is exactly what you need.’

I just laugh.

‘It’s fine,’ I tell her. ‘My situation is… unique. And I would rather you do it for me than I do it for myself. Honestly, the idea of rich and famous people judging me, considering if I’m worthy – it gives me this funny feeling in my stomach.’

‘Don’t you worry, babes,’ she says, waving my worries away with her free hand. ‘I’m crafting your image, as a stylist to the stars, and it’s your photos. Technically, it’s all true. You might not be splurging on private jets, but you’re certainly a star in your own right. Anyone who swipes right on you is doing it for you.’

‘Okay,’ I reply, unconvinced, as I get to work on her hair.

I try to keep stealing glances at her phone screen but Kelly is like lightning on that thing, swiping at warp speed. I’m just going to assume it’s going well.

I hear the door open and then the sound of Tom’s voice as he greets his client, so I whip my head around like an owl.

‘Kane, hello, mate,’ Tom says.

‘All right,’ Kane replies.

Tom greets the thirty-something man, shaking his heavily tattooed hand.

Kane is tall, with broad shoulders, and a rugged handsomeness that screams rock star.

His jet-black hair falls over his shoulders, a stark contrast to his pale skin which seems to be largely covered with tattoos. He has a lip ring, a nose ring, and more rings in his ears than I can count. His dark eyes hint at a mysterious intensity. They’re almost mesmerising.

I watch as Tom leads him to a chair.
