Me: Are you two reading each other’s texts?

Jude: Rebel stole my phone and added herself to the group chat.

Lila: We’re married. We have no secrets.

Jude: But I’m still full of surprises.

Lila: Keep it up, Devil Dog, and I’ll lock you out of the house.

Jude: You can lock it up like Fort Knox, baby, and I’d still find a way to get to you.

Unsurprisingly, the texts stopped after that, thank God. I tossed my phone in the cupholder just as a matte black Dodge Charger pulled up alongside my truck. Because yeah, I was still lurking next to the hedges. I looked down at Declan in the driver’s seat as he rolled down the window. This should be fun. Judging by the look on his face, he wasn’t too happy to see me outside his house.

“I don’t know what game you’re playing, but if you fuck her over, if youhurtmy sister, I will fuck you up. And that’s a promise.”

Two warnings in one night.

I tipped my chin to acknowledge that I’d heard him and waited until he pulled into the driveway before I took off.

I wasn’t looking to break Quinn’s heart. It wasn’t like that with us. We weren’t in a relationship, so no hearts would be broken.

Or, at least, that was what I kept telling myself.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Quinn

I gotout of my car and closed the door just as Carly rounded the side of the taproom. Mason was right behind her.

What was Carly doing here? I thought she quit.

“Come on, Carly,” Mason yelled. She picked up her pace, hurrying toward her car parked next to mine. “How did you expect me to react?”

“I don’t know, Mason,” she yelled over her shoulder. “I guess you reacted exactly how I expected you to. So don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.”

It was none of my business, so I shouldn’t have been standing next to my car watching. But I couldn’t seem to help myself.

Mason grabbed her arm and turned her around to face him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“What do you think it means? I’ll take care of it.”

“Just give me a chance to think about this. You can’t just spring something like that on me and expect—"

“You didn’t need time to think before you fucked me.” Yeah, definitely none of my business. “Just go back to your perfect little life. I’m not your problem.”

She brushed tears off her cheeks, and I rounded her hood as she yanked open her car door.

“Hey. Are you okay?” It was a stupid question. Clearly, she was not okay. So I wasn’t surprised when she just shook her head and didn’t bother answering.

She jumped in her car and peeled out of the parking lot. When she was gone, my gaze swung to Mason.

He was pacing back and forth, tugging at the ends of his hair. Finally, he stopped pacing and kicked the tire of his Jeep. “Fuck.” Kick. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.” Kick, kick, kick. He smacked his palms on the hood and lowered his head. I moved closer just as Holden came out of the brewery and joined us.

“What’s going on?” Holden asked me.

“I don’t know. Mason…” I put my hand on Mason’s shoulder. “Are you okay?”

He pushed off from the Jeep and turned around to face us, his eyes on the ground and his voice so low that at first, I thought I’d misheard. “Carly’s pregnant.”
