I shrug. “You’re not the only one who can find anything out when they want to. Besides, you’re quite easy to gather information on.”

Her eyes narrow into slits.

“That’s not fair,” she murmurs, her tone playful.

“Life’s not fair.” I watch as her smile dims a little.

Idiot. I shouldn’t have said it, but I can’t take it back now.

“This is our first date, how do you like it so far?” I ask her.

She raises a brow. “Cocky, aren’t we?”

“How so?” I ask, trying to stop myself from smiling.

“Who said I’d go on a date with you?”

“Me, of course.”

She laughs, snorting, before she says, “I can’t take your ego.”

“You can’t take my cock either, but you still try.”

That makes her pause, her eyes wide. I wink at her, which causes her to shake her head, feigning disappointment.

We’ve reached the gazebo overlooking the beach; lights are hanging from each corner, a table set up in the middle. And the second Princess turns her head to look, I can see the way her lips part, her eyes wide. She looks at the gazebo, then at me, then back to gazebo.

It goes on for a couple of seconds before I ask her, “Are you going to keep doing that? Because just looking at you turning your head like that is giving me a neck cramp.”

She swats at my arm, I let her before quickly wrapping my arms around her waist and kissing the top of her head.

“You’re insufferable,” she mutters into my chest.

So I press my lips to her hair, inhaling her scent, a mixture of orange and cinnamon. “And you’re sexy when you’re angry.”

I feel a small, sharp, shock in my arm. She pinched me, and my confirmation is the smile she gives me when she pulls back from arms.

Princess pulls me by my hand toward the gazebo, and I follow behind her. “When did you get all of this ready?”

“Truthfully, I had some help. And this was meant for later on tonight,” I say as we stop near the table that’s set up.

Her favorite noodles, some ube-flavored snack, and mochi, pocky, and milk-flavored Hello Panda.

She looks at me as if she doesn’t deserve all of this. And I don’t know how to tell her that I’m the one who doesn’t deserve her. That she’s the one who deserves so much better than some failure like me. But I’m too selfish to give her up for some other fucker who’s even less worthy of her than me.

“Do you like it?” I ask her, swallowing hard.

Princess grabs my shirt, stand on her tiptoes, and presses a soft kiss on my lips. And fuck if I don’t want to deepen the kiss, but she’s still upset by what happened today and I don’t want to push her.

“I love it.” She breathes the words against my lips.

It takes everything in me to keep my arms by my side and not slide them over her curves. To not pull her against me and keep her there forever.

We settle into our seats, but I don’t want to sit far away from her, so I pull her chair right beside me. And that’s exactly how we stay seated for the rest of the day, until the sun sets and our plates are empty, our voices hushed.

If only I could pause time and keep us here for the rest of eternity. I thread my fingers through hers; she’s talking about the time when she snuck into my apartment, but I came back.

“When was this?” I ask her.
