She pouted, losing her hold on him.
He chuckled and leaned over her. “Been missing my dick, baby?” He caught hold of her bottom lip between his teeth and nipped her. Hard.
She moaned and shifted her hips, her core clenching in anticipation.
He ran his tongue over her stinging lip before thrusting into her mouth, simultaneously pushing a finger into her aching center.
“You’re so wet,” he gloated, shifting again, this time over her, replacing his finger with his hard cock.
Bracing his forearms on either side of her head, he started moving his hips in a slow and rhythmic pump. She delighted in the feel of him above her, in her, shielding her from outside forces, his weight and heat and friction building her pleasure, driving her wild. He knew what she wanted, what sheneeded, and he delivered, driving her to the edge, then falling over with her.
And in that intimate moment, it was just them.
Just Rae and Beau.
Husband and wife.
Forever.
“Except forever was a lie,” Rae muttered, shaking off the recollection. She had the rest of her life to lose herself in bittersweet memories. She released her grip on the doorframe and raced back down. Thinking it was a game, Kismet kept pace, barking with excitement, almost tripping her.
She detoured to her office and collected her laptop and charger. The framed photo beside the two monitors caught her eye. Taken on their wedding day, a beaming Beau stared back at her. “I am so sorry, honey,” she whispered. “So very sorry.”
Rubbing the heel of her palm across her aching chest, she fled from the room. In the kitchen, she pulled the notepad they used for shopping lists closer, determined to do the awful but necessary deed.
Rae set her butt on the stool and her forearms on the counter.
And stared at the blank page.
This was it.
When she penned the words and walked out the door, it was over.
Her cellphonestarted vibrating, startling her, and her eyes shifted to the device lying beside the house keys.Bella Calling, the display read. She needed to hurry before Bella became concerned and sent someone to look for her.
Heart heavy, throat thick, she picked up the pen and started writing. Once done, she reread the words, knowing they would destroy the man she loved beyond reason.
But at least he would live.
And would never know the ugly truth about the woman he had married.
Swallowing hard, she removed the rings Beau had slid onto her finger when pledging his love to her and placed them on top of the note. Her finger felt bare without them, and she stared at the indentation left by their absence.
Sniffling, she picked up her set of keys and detached the one for Esmeralda. Palming the single key, she placed the rest down beside her cellphone.
Gripping the edge of the counter, she hung her head low, pulling in deep ragged breaths before pushing herself upright. She almost broke down catching sight of Kismet sitting under the hook containing his leash, the frisbee in his mouth and his tail wagging in anticipation. “Sorry, boy. Not today.”
Not ever again.
Tears blurred her vision. She was throwing away so much.
Go, Raegan. Now.
She slung the laptop bag over the duffel and trudged to the back door.
Kismet moved with her, blocking her path. “Woof. Woof!”
Bending, Rae rubbed a hand over the dog’s neck. Her movement unbalanced the bags slung over her shoulder andthey slipped, knocking into the animal. Kismet yelped and scuttled sideways.
