I began looking through the control bridge for some sort of clue of where to start, but there was nothing. Everything was password protected and digitally encoded.Maybe easy wasn't entirely accurate, but I had faithin my abilities.

“Can you keep an eye on the door for any more … what did you call them?”

“Jello-things?” Kylie asked, referring to the Mujugs.

“Yeah, those. The Mujugs,” I said.

Kylie returned to the door, her laser blaster ready in case we had visitors.

I turned my attention back to the computers. I’d never hacked into something this sophisticated before, but that didn’t mean it was impossible. After a few minutes, I managed to override the language settings, which was a step in the right direction. Soon, I had bypassed the first firewall.

Gargling sounds erupted from outside the control bridge.

“Uh, we might have an issue,” Kylie said.

I looked up. “What is it?”

“More Mujugs are coming,” She said.

“They’re being instructed by the AI. The system is using them to defend itself,” I said, typing furiously. “I’m going to try to override it and shut the door.”

Kylie took aim and fired down the hallway. The sound of splattering Mujugs echoed in the tiny space. “There’s so many of them!” She shouted.

In a flurry of typing, I managed to convince the control bridge was under control. I turned off the alarms and the door shut with a shower of sparks.

Kylie stepped back, shielding her face from the goo that burst through the crack as one of the Mujugs was caught between the sides of the metal door.

Everything was quiet.

Kylie looked up to me, panting hard. Her blond hair was an absolute mess, but her dark blue eyes were on fire. She was worked up, ready to fight, ready to do whatever it took to get us out of this trawler. I knew that look. It was the look of a warrior.
