Kylie, perhaps working on adrenaline alone, suited up with surprising speed.

Electricity crackled across the control panel, and the lights fizzled out.

I zipped up my suit and attached the tether to both of our belts. I tied it and then clipped it securely, just to be safe.

Kylie was breathing hard, her breath turning to fog on the inside of the suit.

“Trust me, ok?” I said.

The Earthling nodded, eyes wide.

For a moment, had the insane urge to kiss her.

I ignored it, popping on my own helmet and securing it. Now was not the time for physical desires like that. If we didn’t make it out of here, our bodies would be instantly frozen in the vacuum of space.

I grabbed my two laser blasters and secured them to my belt as well.

A rivet blew off of the floor and shot across the tiny space. That was our cue; it was now or never.

I grabbed Kylie’s hand and held onto the airlock handle with the other.

We were being sucked deep into the belly of the trawler. Our only hope would be to find an escape hatch. I flipped the lights on my helmet and looked at the human.

Kylie blinked at the lights reflected off her helmet.

“Ready?” I asked.

“Not really,” She squeaked.

“Well, we’re going to do this anyway. I got you. Ok?” I said. The words solidified the feeling in my chest. I needed to protect this female. I’d bet my life on it. There was no describing the feeling that came over me; nothing came close.

Gathering my resolve, I gripped her hand tightly and opened the airlock.
