FOURTEEN

KYLIE

I wasn’t sure if it was the fantastic sex or the emotional heart-to-heart that followed, but I saw Jaxir in a new light now.

We settled in together to watch the screens, waiting for his crew to come and get us. The side screen showed trails of space garbage extended far into the darkness, and the center screen had the map and radar up. We were nothing but a tiny dot in the middle of space.

My stomach growled. “I hope they get here soon,” I laughed.

Jaxir nodded and adjusted how he was sitting so I could rest my head on his shoulder. “It won’t be long now.”

The main doors clanged as some Mujug pushed against them once again.

I shivered. I knew there were at least a dozen more of those jello monsters out there. I’d hate to see what would happen if they decided to actually try to knock the door down. Would we be overpowered by them?

No. I knew better than that. I was a good shot with a laser blaster if I said so myself.

Suddenly, the screen lit up and started flashing.

Incoming ship … incoming ship … please wait for transmission. The computer said.

“Ah, right on time,” Jaxir said. He stood up and hit the button to accept the call.

“We’re here,” A voice said. It was the same voice as before.

A small light appeared on the radar, coming in fast from the front of us. Even with the low visibility of the front camera screens, I could see a gleaming silver starship coming towards us quickly.

My heart skipped a beat. It was an incredible sight.

“There’s a dock at the top of the trawler,” Jaxir said to his crew. He began typing furiously, navigating the complicated menus of the manual system.

I watched over his shoulder. The menus weren’t in a language I understood, and the symbols flashed by so quickly I didn’t have hope even if it was.

“Impressive,” I said.

Jaxir hit another button and glanced at me. “These ships are all the same after a while. It’s pretty intuitive.”

“I guess its kind of like video game menus,” I said. “If they’re designed right, once you know one you know them all.”

Jaxir raised an eyebrow and smiled at me. “I think you would have been a good starfighter pilot, yourself,” He said.

“What?” Why?” I startled. “Video games aren’t like real life,” I laughed nervously.

“I know that, but the potential is there. I would have been proud to work alongside you in the military academy,” He said.

“Well, lucky you,” I said. I pressed up against him and kissed his cheek.

“Why am I lucky?” Jaxir asked, his voice going low.

“Because you get to work with me now,” I giggled. “And out here, there are no rules.”

Jaxir growled low. “Keep talking like that. I’m going to have to keep my crew waiting.”

A shiver ran through my body, wanting an encore. I leaned in and kissed him, nibbling on his bottom lip. “That’s ok with me,” I whispered.

The computer beeped.Foreign ship connected… Airlock activated …

“Ah, too late,” Jaxir said with a chuckle. “Don’t worry, the accommodations on my ship are much better suited for some alone time than the control bridge.”
