“Good plan,” Lincoln said.
Tehlor’s cheek twitched. She frowned, almost, then caught herself. “You’ll visit, though,” she blurted. “Like, we’ll keep in touch, right? This isn’t ...” She laughed, bright and wicked. “I didn’t cover my face in rabbit blood and traverse time and space for us not to stay friends. We can’t ... This isn’t—”
“Oh, look at that. Tehlor Nilsen, sprouting a heart,” Bishop joked.
She pointed a butter knife at them. “Careful.”
“It’s never goodbye,” Juniper said. The table quieted. “The Belle House isn’t going anywhere and none of you are strangers anymore.” She lifted her mug. “To a life well lived.”
“Salud,” Bishop said.
Colin reached over and set his hand on Bishop’s shoulder, cupping the side of their neck. “To finding the unlikeliest friends in the most haunted places.”
Everyone drank, and the Belle House glowed, and the timer on the oven beeped.
Sophia took a long, deep breath. Beside her, Juniper Castle smiled and lifted her chin, sniffing the air.
What a beautiful life,Sophia thought.What a beautiful, beautiful life.
