“Why are you doing all of this?” I whispered, horrified.

“Because you set me up.”

“Don't say that.”

“How can I not when your actions can cost me everything I’ve built over the years?”

“But no one even knows about what happened between us.”

“You know about it. If the word ever got out, no one would care that I didn’t know you were only sixteen.”

“I won’t tell anyone.”

He shrugged. “Guess I’m not feeling so trusting and would rather keep a closer eye on you.”

“Why do you think I’ll screw you over after all this time?” I asked, frustrated.

He took a step forward, grazing the back of his knuckles against my cheek, and leaned it to whisper, “Because you already have.”
