“Workers, soldiers. The men that are out on the streets working or the ones ranked below our generals.” He explained.
“Oh.”
“So, Talia,” Kellan said as he handed one of the cups to Kieron and sat down on the love seat. “Tell me about yourself.”
“Um, if I’m being honest, there isn’t much to tell really.” I confessed, not exactly sure what he was looking for. Did he want my education background, work, special talents? Should I just recite my resume?
“Now, lass, that’s simply not true. Where did you grow up?” Kellan said and took a sip of his drink.
“Here in Boston. I went to Pryde University for college and now I work in an electronics store.”
“Is that where you met my son? At University? I tried to get him to go to Harvard, you know, but the fool is stubborn and wouldn’t accept any help so when he didn’t get in on his own accord, that was it. I offered.”
“You know I wanted to get into a college on my own, by myself. It was important to me that I have that accomplishment for myself. Besides, I’m proud of going to Pryde University. It’s a good school.” Kieron cut in.
“But not as good as Harvard.”
Kieron rolled his eyes and stared at his father over the rim of his coffee cup.
“Anyway, that is neither here nor there.”
“I did meet him at school, but if I understand right, he was out of school when we met. He had just come back for a party with Trenton and we met at the party.” I wanted to try and help Kieron get his father off the Harvard topic. Obviously, it was still a sore subject for the both of them.
“Ah, the classic college party hook-up.” Kellan said with a laugh. “Well, you made an impression. I don’t think any of the women my son has taken to bed in the last five years have even gotten a call back. But here he is now, starting a war for you.”
“I didn’t ask him to.” I said strongly, defensively.
“I understand that, but lass, please don’t misunderstand. You and my son are wanting me to put my men on the line to protect you and our clan. In order to do so, I need something from you.”
“Dad,” Kieron started, moving to the edge of his set, but his dad put up one hand to silence him.
“What is that?” I asked, sitting up straighter.
“You’ve been living with the son of the Italian don for years. I need intel on him. Preferences, habits, routines. I need information on his father and their operation. That is the price.”
I sat and thought back to Luca and the good times we did have back in the beginning. Could I do that to him? Could I betray him in such a way?
But then I remember the nights I laid awake in fear that he would use my body for his own pleasure regardless of if I wanted it. I remember the bruises on my ribcage from kicks so hard I didn’t think I would be able to breathe right. I remember the vile words yelled in my face for so long.
“Easy.” I said to Kellan, then I looked to Kieron who was watching my every move. I nodded once; sealing my fate and giving allegiance to my Irish savior.
Chapter Nine
Kieron
Iknew he would love her.
Even through the bruising, I knew my dad would see her beauty and be a goner.
Kellan Tavish always was a sucker for beautiful women. I could see his eyes sparkle at the prospect of getting more information on his enemy and having Talia around longer.
I pulled Talia closer to me.
We might not be anything right now, but I will not let anyone else, least of all my father, try to take her from me.
Apparently, the movement didn’t go unnoticed by my father, who leaned back in his seat and spread his thighs in an aggressive gesture and smirked at me.
My father wasn’t an unattractive man; he takes great care of his body like he had taught me to do, his hair is dark brown and peppered with grey streaks and he did have a sharp jaw. I’d heard from girls in high school that he was a total DILF and I’d had a few girls try to get to him through me.
