"Spike, I already know what you're thinking. Jayne didn't do this," Eva says from my side.
She moves closer to me, placing her hand on my bicep and caressing a little.
Revulsion sparks in me, and I rip my arm away.
Eva has never been the type to be coy or shy about what she wants.
I just don't want her to get it into her head that I'm next on her list.
When she processes my extreme reaction, she shakes her head. "You know, I always thought Leo was the most hardheaded out of the lot of you. Turns out it might just be you. In case you forgot, I was there when you and Jayne split. I know what happened before. What you did to cause her to walk out. This is not all on her. You're pissed now, fine. But you better get your shit together and soon. Jayne is a good woman. You both are good for each other. Get her back, Spike."
My mouth drops open in shock.
How fucking dare she.
Eva may be a friend to the club and at points in the past a little more than that to Leo, but she's never been that familiar with me. Now she's here basically trying to give me advice about my love life.
"Sage advice coming from the woman who allowed the one man she loved fuck her every way from Friday, use her, and then run off with the next woman all while she stood in the background waiting for scraps. Keep your fucking nose out of my business. I didn't ask for your opinion on what's going on with me and Jayne. Next time keep that shit to yourself." The words are venomous.
If it were any other woman, I'm sure they'd run off to cry.
Not Eva.
She's as sharp as the edge of my blade.
Instead of letting it fester or snapping back, Eva simply lifts her chin and smirks at me before she says, "How is Leo doing? That little girl Nisa still walking on water?"
Unbelievable.
"I'm not getting into that with you, Eva. You want to know how Leo is doing, go see for yourself." I move away from her at the very same second the door to the bathroom swings open.
I'm grateful for the distraction.
Jayne walks back out, her face and the edges of her hairline damp as if she just splashed her face with water.
She must be trying to calm herself down.
It didn't work.
I watch as she looks around the room, and instantly a clear mask of fear falls over her features.
Eva's right.
There's no way Jayne could've done this.
CHAPTER 7
A MISSED SLEEPOVER
SPIKE
I'm used to seeing fear.
Used to people cracking up and breaking down in front of me.
I'm not used to it coming from Jayne. Especially not when I have no intention of comforting her.
"Whoever did this didn't leave many clues around. They wanted you to find the room like this. They probably knew you'd call us," I say out loud for both Eva and Jayne to hear.
