“You live here,” I stated, still not believing my eyes. This was some kind of joke or weird coincidence.

“I do. Why?” Curiosity was painted all over his face. I opened and shut my mouth then covered it with the tips of my fingers.

“I just…” I giggled. He’d repainted the place since I’d seen it last. White with dark edging. It somehow made the place look like something out of a fairytale.

“What is it?” he asked without rushing me to get out. He hadn’t even turned the car off, so the AC was running to keep both of us comfortable.

“I just…” I chewed on my lower lip before turning back to him. “I grew up around here. I used to live two streets down. On Thyme Drive.”

“Really?” His head tilted slightly, and it was a little unnerving the way I had his complete attention. How I wanted to tell him everything about my life so he could tell me all about his.

“Yeah. I’d walk to school and…”

“And what?”

“This was my favorite house on my walk,” I shared. “I’d tell myself all these stories about the people who lived here. What it would be like to live here one day. Have my own family here,” I admitted. Something flashed in his eyes, something I wasn’t prepared to dissect. “I don’t know… it was silly.”

“It’s not.” His hand took mine.

“You repainted,” I pointed out. He nodded quietly, his gaze never wavering from mine. If anyone else had done that, I’d have felt like I was under a microscope. With him, it was different. I felt like he saw me.Really saw me.“I like it more than the old avocado green it used to be.”

“Thanks.” He cleared his throat. His fingers stroked my hand before he brought it up between us and leaned in to kiss the top of it. “Don’t get out yet, ‘kay?” I simply nodded.

Sweat started to form at the back of my neck, and my heart started to beat a little faster. I was doing this. I was actually going to do this. I was walking into a man’s place, a man who I had just met, and I had every intention of letting him make me feel incredibly alive if he wanted to. I had a feeling there wasn’t anything I wouldn’t agree with if he asked.

I couldn’t tear my eyes off him as he rounded the truck. That beautiful intense blue gaze on me, like he was afraid I’d jump out or disappear into thin air. Every step he took seemed almost predatory.

And I was happy as a duck, waiting to get caught.

SEVEN

NATHAN

I couldn’t believeshe was here.

In my house.

I felt like a dirty old man as I opened the door, unable to stop myself from checking her out as her curvy body brushed against mine. The tiny sliver of tan skin the tee showed made my mouth water for a taste. My hands ached to touch her smooth skin to feel her softness. She stepped through the front door, and all I wanted to do was kick it closed and shove her up against it.

Fuck, I was in trouble.

I had no idea what the hell I had been thinking when I’d offered to bring her to my place. Shit, I had completely expected her to turn me down. Maybe even tell me to go to hell. But she hadn’t, and that only proved how you never knew unless you asked.

My sweet angel had agreed, and now we were here.

Inside my house, she looked around, soaking in everything. I wondered what she saw. If she liked it. Fuck, I was ready to offer for her to change whatever she wanted, all in an attempt to have her never leave.

I’d tell myself all these stories about the people who lived here. What it would be like to live here one day. Have my own family here. Her words bounced around inside my head. I’d be up to giving my baby girl that family. Shit, we could start trying right here and now if she wanted to.

“Umm,” I started to say, but the words got stuck like chunky peanut butter on the roof of my mouth.

A glance at her nailed my feet to the ground when our eyes connected. Standing side by side, she was so much smaller than me. So delicate. Feminine.Mine,a voice in my head growled. It felt like in the blink of an eye, my head was bombarded with image after image of all the different ways I’d love to position her. I felt out of control. Like a feral animal left out of its cage. I’d never felt a need running through my veins like this before. To possess. To claim. To keep. But fuck me if I’d scare her away.

“Would you like something to drink?” I tried not to wince at the offer. It sounded like a come-on. A cliché. “Water or soda or?—“

“Something stronger?” she requested. My cock went from half mast to standing at attention.

She blushed, but the glint in her eyes told me she felt this. The insane pull towards one another. The sexual tension seemed to build with every second that ticked by. I took her hand in mine. I didn’t want to get her drunk or give her anything to take the edge off.
