You hungry? I’m fixing a couple of steaks.

Famished.

She was pretty sure he chuckled telepathically as well.If you want to get cleaned up, I left you some things you might be able to use. There’s a t-shirt of mine you can wear if you want.

Thanks.

When she got up, she immediately understood why he’d suggested his shirt. Her clothes had dried blood spatter on them. She picked up the shirt and headed to the attached bathroom.

The sink and shower were done in a soothing gray and white marble. On the counter was a plastic container, lid removed, that had a few things inside like a brush and comb, toothbrush and toothpaste, even lip balm.

Somehow, she thought it was just like Braden to make sure she had what a woman would require in this situation.

She brushed her hair first, throwing her head forward and working the pine needles and tangles out.

When she was done, she showered.

She heard a tapping on the door then saw the door open. Her heart jumped. She caught his reflection in the mirror. She always forgot how handsome he was.

“Need anything else?” His deep voice flowed through the space.

“No. I’m good.”

“All right then. Steaks ready in five.”

“Thank you.”

She shut off the water and took her time drying off.

By the time she entered the large living area of what was an expansive underground chamber, the aroma of the steaks filled the air. Her stomach rumbled.

She glanced around and noted both a well-appointed dining and living room. To the right was the kitchen.

She’d intended to make things clear yet again about her ownership of the chalice, but Braden turned to her and smiled.

“Feeling better?” he asked.

Oh, that smile. She swore every thought simply vanished from her head. Well, all except one. Somehow it had taken hold of her mind thoroughly and completely and had nothing to do with the blood chalice.

Then her heart swelled up and popped so that a kind of euphoria spread through her entire body. She knew exactly what she wanted from him, what she’d fantasized about for months on end since she’d been with him a year ago.

She all but floated across the space to where he stood. He lifted a steak from the grill and settled it on a dark gray plate.

She drew close, slung an arm around his neck then kissed him hard on the lips.

He looked so surprised that his mouth fell open. “You kissed me.”

“And I’m not even drunk like last time. Here’s the deal, I want to share your bed for the day. No strings. You game?”
