Morgan hated that Jan felt as though she would be better off working from home.Even if it meant she got to see Jan more often because there wouldn’t be a commute to contend with every day, it didn’t make Morgan hate Phil and his new woman any less.“You own that business, babe.Don’t let her make you feel awkward.”

“Oh, she can’t even bring herself to look at me.”Jan scoffed and shook her head.“And working from home means you can come over and lounge around if I’m busy.It keeps you out of the bar when you’re not working.A change of scenery, you know?”

“You don’t know how much I’d love that.”Morgan glanced up at Jan and smiled.“Sort of makes me never want to have to work again.”

“I’m just grateful for any time I can spend with you.”Jan helped herself to a spring roll.“It was nice to see Gillian and Finn last night.”

“Yeah, it was.”Morgan was glad they’d had a conversation last night. She didn’t need the animosity between them.“Finn apologised, and now we can all move on.”

“I think she was under the impression that she’d ruined your friendship entirely.Judging by what Gill said to me last week, anyway.”Jan sighed as she stretched her legs under the coffee table and relaxed against the couch.“I’m glad that’s not the case.”

“Nah.It’s not like that at all.I just…I don’t like confrontation.”Morgan lifted a shoulder.“The night she came to the bar, we had a pretty rough discussion. She realised she’d fucked up then, but I wasn’t going to roll over for her.She deserved to feel the way she did.I’d just lost you, and it was mostly her fault.”

“Everyone is where they’re supposed to be now.”Jan lifted her plate from the table and moaned when she stabbed a fork into a sui mai.“You’re a bad influence.Inevereat takeout.”

Morgan stopped mid-chew and side-eyed Jan.“I… You don’t?”

“No.It always seemed a waste to order something in for me alone.”

Fucking hell.Phil had been so absent in their marriage that Jan couldn’t even enjoy something simple like a takeout on a weekend. That was sad.Truly sad.“But you enjoy takeout, right?”

“I do.It’s nice to not have to cook one night a week.”

“In that case, let’s make it a weekend thing. And if I’m working, we’ll make it a midweek thing.”Morgan nudged Jan’s shoulder.“You can have anything you want with me, babe.”

Jan regarded Morgan with a sexy smirk.“Yes.I’m beginning to realise that.”

No matter what, Morgan was going to spoil this woman in any way she could.Jan deserved it.She deserved so fucking much.“We’re a good team, don’t you think?”

Jan gazed back lovingly at Morgan, those blue eyes soft and inviting.“We make a very good team.”

“I’m enjoying having other things on my mind lately. It’s always just been work, but now?Work is generally the furthest thing from my mind.”It wasn’t often Morgan fell asleep at night with a woman on her mind, but she was enjoying the change. And Jan, of all women?Well, Morgan would sleep soundly for many years to come.“I fall asleep thinking about you, and I wake up the very same way.”

Jan reached for the TV controller on the coffee table and powered it on.“Mm, even when you’re sleeping next to me, you’re in my dreams too.”

If Jan kept saying things like that, Morgan was going to say some things that she probably wasn’t ready to hear.Change the subject! She quickly cleared her throat.“Hey, um…I don’t want to put you off me, but could I put the football on?It’s being televised tonight.”

Jan laughed.“Of course you can.I don’t watch much TV, so help yourself.”Jan handed the controller to Morgan and turned her face towards Morgan’s shoulder. She pressed a kiss to the skin not covered by her tank top, then returned to her food.“And for the record, it would take a lot for me to be put off by you.”

Morgan whooped when she saw the score line. Her team was winning one nil.

“Which team is yours?”

Morgan smiled.“The team wearing blue.”

“Are they good…or?”

Hmm.That was a debatable question.“At the moment, yes.But it’s been a tough season for us.Things are looking up now, though.New manager and all.”

“Excellent. You can explain the rules around football to me some other time.”

“While I appreciate the enthusiasm, you don’t have to take an interest in it if it’s not your thing, babe.”Morgan would talk to Jan about everything and anything, but she found it hard to believe that she wouldeverbe remotely interested in football.

“It’s an interest of yours, so it’s an interest of mine.”

And just like that, Morgan fell harder in love with this woman. She didn’t know how that would go down when she eventually found the courage to tell Jan, but that was a problem for another day.Tonight, Morgan just wanted this.To be alone with Jan.
