“Oh. Sorry.” I exhale and draw back both monsters, revealing my own true form once again.

“Don’t apologize, my darling boy. You’re beautiful in any way, shape, or form.” He caresses my cheek, and this time, it hurts. “Those hell-vespers did a number on you, didn’t they?”

I nod even though I have no idea what hell-vespers are. I don’t care. I don’t care about anything anymore. All I care about is him. All I care about is that I’m back with him and we’ve defeated yet another nightmare.

Lucian brushes his fingers over my bare skin, over every bump, scratch, and gushing wound, and I hold back my hisses because it’s him. He’s touching me. He’s holding me.

“You were stunning, my boy. I’ve never been prouder and more in love with you,” he says and pins me to his body, claiming my lips.

Dear Goddess, I almost forgot what he tasted like. I almost forgot this sweet smokiness that can soothe everything inside and out.

I melt into his arms. The more he kisses me, the weaker I get. The adrenaline rushes out of me until I’m left numb and naked in his embrace.

“Let’s get you home, my Yu-jin.” He soars up to the sky that has turned blood red, three moons spreading their sanguine light over the sand dunes of hell.

I wrap my hand around his neck, nuzzle his soft and warm suit jacket that smells as wonderful as he tastes, and close my eyes.

“I already am home, my soulmate.”

CHAPTER TEN

“YOU’RE MY ONE AND ONLY KING.”

I openmy eyes to Lucian’s caress. He brushes my skin, and it lights up in his path.

“Hey, darling boy.” His voice is low and rumbly, and it warms me.

I tug the blanket closer to me and lean against his shoulder. He’s half sitting, half lying beside me. He’s wearing nothing but his boxer shorts and combing my hair with his fingers.

“Hey,” I reply and close my eyes again, reveling in his touch, in his embrace.

Safe and sound at long last. However long it lasts this time.

“How are you feeling?”

“Like a bus ran me over. Fifty times.”

He coos and bends to kiss my forehead. I bring a hand out from under the blanket and rub the side of his face, guiding him to my lips.

The mere connection makes me feel dizzy and sweet. I don’t think I’ll ever have enough of kissing him, holding him.

“How are you feeling?” I ask, and my hand drops to my face. It’s as smooth as it’s ever been. “Healing spell?”

He nods. “I’m all right, my boy. Just worried about you. Worried and so proud.”

I look into his eyes. There’s a dark abyss in them, and I’d happily get lost in it over and over again from here to infinity.

“Yeah?” I ask.

“Yes. You were marvelous out there. The way you held yourself, the way you used your power. You were a true superior witch like I know you’ve always been.”

He traces the side of my face with soft, delicate fingers and progresses down to my chin. As his thumb rests under my lip, I open my mouth and bite it softly.

“You really think I’m a superior witch?” I ask as he rumbles, hovering in front of my face, his breath blowing scorching hot against my skin.

“You’re a king, my darling boy. My one and only king.”

I flick my tongue over his thumb, and this time, I feel his tremble inside me, his lips finding solace from my jaw to my neck.
