“Points a, b, and c. All together, we make abc. Crystal and you are ab. Crystal and I are ac. You and I are bc.” He lets his shirt go and relaxes back into the seat. “There are different combinations but we’re all a part of the same shape. Understood?”

Trig and I both nod. We all take hands in a circle and smile at one another. We’re a little weird, and we’ve got a lot to learn, but it’s going to be so much fun.

My stomach rumbles. “I think I need some food.”

“Probably. I wasn’t able to give you much more than soup when you were out,” Trig says.

“How long was I out?”

After the guys fill me in on what I missed, we eat and then I go outside and play with Plato for a while. Soon enough it’s dark, and I’m really excited about finding out what’s going to happen at midnight. They said I haven’t been turning at midnight, but now that I’m awake again who knows? I’m crossing my fingers this curse is over, though.

While we wait for midnight we watch a few old movies that Trig left here to watch while he was taking care of me. There’s this half animated-half live action movie from the eighties that I haven’t seen in ages and I’m absolutely absorbed in it when it’s almost time to go.

“Hey, time to stop watching that rabbit and get hopping.” Trig jokes and I snort.

“Terrible joke, but you’re right. Let’s go.”

Trig and I trudge down the path until we get to the clearing and wait. We left Cliff behind because it would be rude to make him hobble through the forest on crutches.

It’s a full moon, so my whole everything is very much on display in the bright lunar light when I get undressed. As twelve hits, I place my arms to my sides, look up to the sky, and…nothing.

I wait a few more seconds in case my clock is off but nope, nothing. No change. The curse is broken. My heart starts racing as a smile crosses my face. I feel dizzy with relief.

“Hey, what was that part of the curse about you’ll still be transparent or something?” Trig asks.

“She said ‘you’ll still be transparent on the full moon’ or something like that. Why?” I ask, now suspicious.

“Just look at yourself,” Trig says, exasperated.

I raise an arm to my eye line and yelp. A second arm has me dropping to the ground. I look at my legs and screech.

“Is it my whole body?” I shout.

“Yeah. You’re all invisible. Well, like how glass is invisible. So not like ‘The Invisible Man’ invisible where there’s nothing. I mean there’s clearly a shape of you, but that’s it. Just a shape.” Trig sets his hand on my shoulder.

I stare ahead at my toes, which look like perfect little glass sculptures, and wiggle them. At least they don’t move as stiff as glass. I feel physically the same, I just look crazy.

“Well, at least it only happens on the full moon,” I mumble. If I don’t try to find an upside to this, I’m gonna lose it. “You think we can go back to the house? I really don’t want to stay out here. If someone spots us I can, uh, pretend to be a statue or something.”

“That is a terrible plan but yeah, we can do that. Come on, get dressed and let’s go. You can take my hoodie and put it on. More coverage.”

“Thank you, hon. Now let’s go find our angle c.”

Not long after, we make it back to the house without anyone spotting us, thankfully. When we get to the living room and find Cliff sitting in my reading chair, looking through one of my smutty books, I have to clear my throat to get his attention.

“Cliff! We’re back.”

“Oh, apologies. I was absorbed in this story. I can see now why you read these sorts of things. He really has pumpkin spice latte flavored ejaculate? Intriguing.” Cliff says while still looking at the pages. “You must share more of your favorite books with me.”

“CLIFF!” I shout. “Pay attention!”

His head snaps up at the same time I lower the hood of the sweatshirt I’m wearing. Cliff blinks slowly several times before setting the book on the table next to him.

“Are you that way everywhere?” he asks.

“Yes. I think it’s the part of the curse about me being transparent on the full moon. Hopefully that means I’ll be fine in the morning, but for now, I’m all the way clear as glass.”

“Fluorite.” Cliff corrects me. “May I see?” He begins to stand but winces when he puts too much pressure on his bad leg and sits back down.
