Not in the next minute.

And not after I opened my mouth and asked, “Did you hear me?”

He didn’t say anything.

Just then, his phone rang.

He pulled it out, checked it, hit a few buttons, turned, and stepped away from me.

Okay.

Well... that didn’t hurt.

Nope.... not at all.

He could answer his phone, but he couldn’t answer me.

I stood there as I wrapped my arms around my waist, trying to hold in the hurt.

Then he talked to whoever had called him, nodded, and then hung up.

Then he moved to his bike and looked at me, “Gotta get to the clubhouse. Later, baby.”

Later, baby.

I stood there as I watched him start up his bike, do a three-quarter turn, and drive down the driveway.

Then I closed my eyes and inhaled a deep breath.

I wouldn’t ever try to change him.

Because the man he was, was the man I fell head over heels for.

I just wish my heart could decide to grow a barrier around it for when he did shit like this, so it didn’t hurt so much.

I shook my head, climbed into my car, turned around, and then drove down the driveway.

My phone pinged at a red light.

Xander – Sorry, baby. Had to get to the clubhouse. Shit is going down.

That didn’t make what he did alright... but I got it.

The club came first.

I could deal.

I really could.

... right?

‘The right one will let you know how true love feels.’
