Which meant everything she remembered happening was real.

“Holy shit,” she whispered. There was daylight coming in from outside the cave—and weren’t they supposed to already be flying someplace safe?

“I didn’t want to wake you,” Tarian said as she moved to roll over and look up at him.

Her pussy was sore from getting railed, and her stomach was too, from coming too much—there’d been more in the ocean, then again on the beach—and then she’d convinced him to not worry about her knees in the sand and take her from behind. They must have fucked for hours before they went to sleep, and she was well aware that she was the one that’d tapped out, not him.

“You were too beautiful while you slept,” he went on, and Kenna bit back a laugh, because she knew he meant it—even thoughsheknew she needed new clothes, deodorant, a hairbrush, and God-only-knew how much leave-in conditioner.

“You’re biased,” she said.

“Perhaps,” he agreed, one eyebrow rising. “Are you ready to leave?”

She looked down at herself and sighed. “Yes—and no.” She leaned up to kiss his cheek, then took her dress off to rearrange it without thought, managing to do the zipper again behind her, before realizing he was watching her with hungry eyes. “We can go to your brother’s first. And then maybe figure different things out.”

“Yes. He knows more about this Realm than me. He will help.”

“Okay,” she said, smoothing the front of her dress down. “Is he going to mind seeing me?” she wondered, gesturing at her current discombobulated state.

“He will be ecstatic,” Tarian enthused—she just wished she could feel the same.

But at least there was a dragon ride coming up. She ran outside, gulped more water from the spring, went to the bathroom a bit away, then came back, dusting her feet off on seaweed before she put on her socks and boots.

Tarian, however, was already ready, with his pants off, looking resplendently naked in the noontime sun.

“That’s not fair,” she muttered.

“What’s not?”

She groaned and laughed. “Nothing. How far is your brother’s place?”

“Just a few hours’ flight up the coast.”

“What if I need to pee?” she asked, and he paused thoughtfully. “I’m a human girl, Tarian. Plus, I don’t want to meet your brother with a full bladder.”

“I was just thinking you could just relieve yourself in flight, like birds do.”

“Nope,” she said solidly. “You and I? We’re not there yet. And I don’t know if we’ll ever be.”

“Fair enough. Just tap me three times, in quick succession, and I’ll know you need to land,” he said, but frowned a little. “Please wait as long as you can. The further we are away from this place, and your old home, the safer you’ll be.”

“Understood,” she said, and he nodded, then stepped back.

She watched him inhale, and then he was a dragon. In the time it took her to blink—it was that fast.

Only now, she was allowed to look at him.

“Oh,” she whispered, walking up.

He bowed his head to hers, tilting it from side to side so that he could see her better. His scales were a dark red, just this side of black, and they were as scarred as he was, and some of them were missing in patches. She walked past his head as his flexible neck swiveled so he could watch her, and she put her hand on his chest and was able to feel his heartbeat beneath it, strong and true.

He let her for a moment, then he huffed, blowing sand everywhere, and held out a palm, circled by claws. Rocky jumped on up—and Kenna grabbed his pants for him.

“My turn?” she guessed, and he used his other hand to grasp her, before leaping into the sky.
