“Hello? Reagan?” I barely answered before the call went to voicemail. “You there?”

She giggled, sounding happier than I’d heard her in weeks. “I’m here. Tell me what happened last night! You shouted that you were pregnant and those hotties just carted you away! Did you admit to them that you were lying?”

I swallowed and it sounded like a bomb going off to my own ears.

“So, something happened.”

“Did they hurt you? I’ll fucking murder every one of them, Harley.” She sounded like she was seconds away from grabbing a pitchfork.

“No! They didn’t hurt me.” I took a deep breath. “Weird coincidence…they were the men I slept with two months ago.”

Her gasp was almost enough to make me smile. I was spilling great tea. “Holy shit. That’s crazy!”

I agreed. Big time.

“Did they freak out and think they’d knocked you up?”

I let out a weak laugh.

“Well, that’s where things take a weird turn.”

“Shut up.”

“I guess I wasn’t lying.”

“Shut up!”

“They wouldn’t just take my word that I wasn’t pregnant. They called out for a pregnancy test and made me take it.” I sank down on my used futon. I’d found it on the side of the street and it would probably give the baby a disease. “I’m not ready for a baby, Rea. I’m sitting on a couch I picked up from the curb which still smells like death when it gets hot in the apartment. I know my neighbor is listening to every word right now because our walls are the thickness of a sheet of cheap paper. What am I going to do?”

“You’re not alone, Harley. You’ve got an entire support system behind you here in Devil’s Den. If you need to come here, you’re always welcome. I can make up a room for you right now and you can stay until our kids are graduating together.” She sniffed. “I know you’re panicked but I know you’re going to be an amazing mom, Harley.”

I wasn’t sure about that. I blew out a deep breath and looked around my apartment. Actually, I was sure that I wasn’t going to be an amazing mom.

“Come here for a few days at least. I miss you.” She said something to one of her men and he grumbled a reply I couldn’t make out. “Mills said come on.”

“Thank you. Thank Mills for me, too. I just…I need a few days to figure this out, I think.” I sank into the single chair at the rickety dining table that made my kitchen space even smaller than it already was. “I ran away from them again.”

“Tell me everything. I mean everything. I’m passing Lucky off to Mills so I want all the details. Did you sleep with them again?”

I felt my face heat.

“You already know the answer to that, Rea.”

She giggled. “Okay. Put all the angst and worry aside for a minute and tell me about it. I’ll tell you about my night, too.”

Reagan distracted me for another hour while we swapped stories but as soon as I was off the phone, panic swamped me once again. I climbed back into bed and sighed.

“So, you got knocked up?” Aaron’s voice was almost a welcome distraction.

“None of your business.”

“Hey, I’m just asking. You sound like shit.” He went quiet for a bit. “The sex sounded great, though.”

I slapped the wall again and groaned. “I hate you.”

He laughed. “Same.”

It was hours before I fell asleep and even then the sleep was shitty and I woke up multiple times after having weird stress dreams. After the fifth time of dreaming about my teeth falling out, I climbed out of bed and decided to go into the flower shop early. I wasn’t scheduled and I wouldn’t get paid for it but I needed to be around flowers.
