Belinda groused as I pushed her to get to the ranch faster. She didn’t seem to appreciate I had somewhere to be. To be fair, I’d never quite pushed her so hard. When she squealed to a stop in front of the house there was smoke coming from the hood but I’d make it up to her later.
I ran up the steps to the porch and grabbed the door handle and pushed. Instead of swinging open like I’d hoped I just crashed into the door with a loudthud. Thankfully it was just my shoulder. My stomach was starting to pooch out more and more and the last thing I wanted was to squish our baby.
I tried the door again and then knocked wildly. When my knuckles ached, I switched to slapping the door with my open palm, anything to get one of them to open up for me. They wanted me and I needed to be with them. I was home, dammit.
“Hello? Let me in!” I spun around, searching around the house for a sign of anyone. When I heard the door open behind me I spun around, heart in my eyes. “I came—”
Ginger stood in front of me, her hands on her hips, face pinched with anger.
“They’re not here.”
I swallowed and took a step back. The woman was terrifying when she wanted to be.
“Um… Can you tell me where they are?”
She scowled.
“You hurt my boys.”
My skin flushed and I bit back the urge to defend myself.
“I’m here to make things right. I have no intention of hurting them ever again, Ginger. I love them. Please, tell me where they are.”
“Why not call them?”
I grimaced.
“I left my phone in Devil’s Den. I was eager to get here.”
“You’re here for good?”
Nodding, I wiped stray tears from my cheeks.
“I am.”
“Don’t make me regret this, girl.” She inhaled deeply and blew it out just as slowly, dragging it out until I practically vibrated on the porch boards. “They went to Club Devil.”
I stumbled back a step. A bolt of dread hit me hard.
“What? Why?”
“I know nothing. You’d better go get them if you want them.” With that, she stepped back and shut the door. The sound of the lock engaging was deafening.
I turned and stared out at the land. Were they giving up on me after all? The longer I stood there, staring out at the setting sun and the stunning rainbow of orange and pink it made, the more my despair turned to anger. They promised they’d wait. I wasn’t going to let them move on without at least facing me when they did it. Or…maybe I wasn’t going to let them move on at all. We had a baby on the way. They’d made promises to me. They couldn’t just give up on me because I took a few days longer than they would’ve liked. Fuck that.
Belinda was still smoking when I jumped back in. I patted the dash before speeding away from the ranch.
“Just a bit farther, Belinda. You’ve got this, girl. Then we’ll take you back to that mechanic and get you all sorted. Just get me there. Please.”
Anger grew larger in me with each mile I gained. I’d driven past the turn off for Club Devil on the way to the ranch. I would’ve saved Belinda a lot of effort if I’d have known the men I loved were at a sex club, trying to replace me. Asses. They had another thing coming if they thought I was going out without a fight. No. I’d decided I was back and that was that. They’d promised to wait, dammit.
I was really getting keyed up for a fight and only had around a mile left to get to Club Devil when Belinda decided she was done participating. With a loud clanking sound, she lost power and no matter how hard I pressed my foot down on the gas she wouldn’t react. Smoke poured out from under the hood and there was nothing I could do but pull off to the side of the road.
“Dammit! Belinda! We were so close!” I swung open the door and slammed it shut. “I’m so mad at you right now! We’re going to have a hard talk when I get back!”
With nothing else to do, I turned towards the club and started walking. Each step built an anxiety in me that I was wasting time. What if they were meeting an eager woman at that very moment? With a vicious curse, I started running. I wasn’t a runner but there I was, running as fast as I could. My tits were bouncing wildly and I was breathless after the first five steps but still, I ran.
