The driveto Baylyn’s office gave me time to think, but not about the shit that should have been on rotation. Trent was a problem. Carter’s warning was heavy on my mind and I knew I’d have to deal with it eventually, but right now, I wasn’t interested in strategy or consequences.
I needed a distraction and Baylyn was the only one who had been able to pull me out of my head lately.
When I made it to her job, the parking lot was nearly full. I parked near the entrance and dropped back against the seat, processing that I was fucking stressed and the first person I wanted to see was Baylyn. I grinned before I got out of mycar, heading to the building. I asked the first person I saw for directions and they pointed me to the office that belonged to her.
Baylyn was chilling inside, iPad in one hand with her other holding a phone to her ear. Her expression was serious but calm as she listened intently.
She was in her world, focused, handling business and I fucked with it. I lingered outside the office for a minute just taking in the space. Everyone around us was in a zone, so no one paid me much attention. Most were too busy with their own shit to notice me or didn’t fucking care. I made a mental note because that meant anyone could have access and I wasn’t cool with her being exposed.
Today it worked in my favor. I moved toward her desk and based on the way her brows pinched together just before her eyes lifted she felt my presence before she acknowledged it.
She rushed to end her call, setting the iPad down and when her pretty ass smiled and when those lips curved, my dick received it with memories of them being wrapped around it last night.
“Busy?”
She grinned wider. “What do you think?”
I glanced at the neatly stacked folders, open laptop, open planner with notes scribbled in it, then let my eyes shift back to hers. Yeah, she was busy, but I needed this moment; so fuck it.
“I think since I was sucking on your pussy last night, you’ll make time for me.”
She couldn’t hide her smile but she also looked past me to the door to make sure there wasn’t anyone near who didn’t need to have access to our private conversation. “What Ithinkis you’re here and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
I shrugged, moving closer to her desk, casually picking up things, examining them and setting them back down.
I caught the way her body relaxed and the way her energy settled but fuck if mine didn’t too. The weight I’d been carrying since seeing Carter was now lighter. Baylyn smiled watching me in her space, but she didn’t tell me to leave. Instead, she leaned back in her chair with her eyes locked on me, laced with amusement and curiosity.
I took it as an invitation to stay and dropped into the chair across from hers.
“You just made yourself at home.”
I rested an ankle over my knee. “You’re the one who said I should.”
“That’s not what I said.” She playfully rolled them pretty ass eyes.
“Pretty sure it was.”
“Pretty sure it wasn’t.”
I chuckled and turned my head, sweeping over her space, taking in the details. Neatly arranged stacks of notes, the planner filled with color-coded tabs, the expensive coffee sitting half-finished beside her laptop. Baylyn was organized as fuck except for the slight mess of sticky notes scattered near her keyboard. I reached for one and flipped it between my fingers. “You got these shits everywhere.”
She narrowed her eyes, plucking it out of my hand. “Some of us have important things to remember.”
I grinned, slouching deeper into my seat. “I remember stuff too but it’s not smart for me to write that shit down.” I made a gun motion with my fingers and she rolled her eyes.
“What kind of extra ass shit are you working on now? A wedding on the moon?”
Her smile spread, wide as hell. “Don’t joke it’s coming but no. Birthday party for twins. Lots of opinions, very specific requests that probably won’t happen but I’ll still make it amazing.”
Baylyn was on her shit and I loved that. She was comfortable in this world, in her element with a confidence that mirrored mine.
“You stay on your boss shit. I like that. It’s sexy.”
Her eyes landed on mine. She had something to say but was debating whether or not to say it and eventually shared her thoughts. “I can’t be on my boss shit if you’re here, Emir. You’re distracting me.”
I smiled. “I won’t stay long. I just needed to see you for a minute. My day has kinda been fucked up.”
She stared at me, weighing my words, trying to decide if she should believe me. “How can I help?”
