I hated planes and helicopters, and it would seem spending years trapped on my father’s—no,fakefather’s—property, it wasn’t easy for me to move.

We didn’t go to Victor’s place. That would have been easy.Instead, we went to Peter Orlov’s territory. We didn’t stay with them. There was a special safe house, and we had some luggage, and none of it was my sewing equipment.

We had left Ivan’s private island, and were now locked in a secure location. The Butcher was there, and she hugged me, welcoming me.She didn’t stay.No one stayed. The house was secured with just Victor and me inside.

I didn’t know if this was better or worse than being on an island. The windows were boarded up, so there was no way to see the outside.I wanted to cry.Only, I took a deep breath, folded my arms across my chest, and looked at the windows.

“Cozy,” I said.

Victor didn’t say anything.

“Is this what it will be like?”I asked.“Because I think I would be quite happy to run the risk of starving to death.”

He moved up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.“Peter has this place closed most of the year. It’s a safe house he hasn’t used in quite some time. It’s boarded up because of a bad storm a couple of years ago.If he opened it and didn’t stay here, it would raise suspicion.Going to a hotel would be too risky.”

“Will all the places we stay in be like this?”I asked.

“No.This is a test,” he said.

“A test?”

“To see who is watching.”

“How long are we staying here?”I asked.

“Three days.”

“Three days?”I tried to pull away from him, but he wouldn’t let me.

“I know this is not what you wanted, baby, but trust me.Trust Ivan, and trust The Butcher.”

I pressed my lips together and tried to convince myself not to cry.But my eyes got blurry, and then it was like everything came crashing down all at once.I had been able to handle so much.I thought the tears were long gone, but I was wrong.

I tried to get away from him, but he spun me around and then held me.I was not used to being held and comforted while I cried.Tears were a weakness. They were always used against me.

“I’m sorry,” I said.

“You have nothing to be sorry about.”He let go of me, but only long enough to cup my face, and forced me to look at him.“Nothing.You’re ...perfect.”

“I’m not perfect.”

He took possession of my lips, and all argument left my mind as he kissed me.I felt the curling of my toes, and I didn’t know how he was able to do that with just a kiss.

His hands went to my ass, and I loved when he touched my ass.I felt myself go putty in his arms.He was the one in control, and I was willing to do whatever he wanted. All he had to do was tell me.

Victor broke the kiss, and the tears stopped.

“You’re perfect to me.Now, let’s go and check this place out.”

He grabbed my hand and wouldn’t take no for an answer.I soon came to realize that checking this place out wasn’t for my own benefit, but mainly for Victor’s.

“Are you being nosy?”I asked.

“What? Can’t a guy know what another Brigadier’s place is like?”he asked, while snooping through drawers, which were all empty.

We had checked the whole downstairs, as well as upstairs.Only the library and kitchen showed any signs of life. The library still had its supply of books. The kitchen had fresh food.I imagined The Butcher had been by to stock the fridge.

After our tour and Victor’s snooping, I got to work in preparing us sandwiches. The place was dark.No light filtered through the boards. It was completely black. We had lights, but I hated to say it reminded me of a horror film.
